Only a masochist would like A Feast for Crows. Talk about grinding to a halt. You can't remove what are probably the 3 most popular characters for an entire freaking book. I didn't start reading the books until 2004, so the wait wasn't long for me, but if I had to wait 5 freaking years and this is what I got I would have been mighty pissed. A Dance With Dragons was much better (and I had to endure the whole freaking wait for this one), but even it didn't approach the levels of the original 3. It's like he wrote 3 great books and had no clue where to go, so he just started stalling Dragon Ball Z style.
And...you're not kidding when you say you enjoyed all of A Feast For Crows? Thats an accomplishment in itself lol Exactly, except for the DBZ part. That show was entertaining sir.
Pretty sure books 4 and 5 are about events that were to take place in between books but he realized that there would be too much back story to tell in the next book so he just went ahead and wrote it out.
Gonna have to agree with you on this one. He could have cut back so much and wound up with a far better story. Seems like "A Feast for Crows" had too much extraneous crap. I wouldn't have been surprised if a Cersei POV chapter had centered around Tommen choosing between Cocoa Puffs or Boo Berry.
I read all 5 consecutively so it's all one big story to me and not necessarily chopped up into 5 different installments. So I didn't mind the last 2 books though I did notice it picked up in the 2nd half of DWD after it had caught up time wise with FFC.
i liked the introduction of the dorne characters, darkstar and the sand snakes, advancing arya's character was really interesting, brienne's adventure was entertaining, samwell's adventure and crossing path's with arya, i don't mind all the elaboration and the expansive universe
i'm sure dinklage was exaggerating a bit, he said a long time ago that he had not read the books and he didnt plan to
It makes sense from an actors perspective. The character doesn't know what's coming next so he doesn't want to know either. He wants to experience things as Tyrion experiences them.
Yet he's the best actor on that show. I seriously can't see anyone else as Tyrion. Even if every male actor was the size of a half-man, Dinklage IS Tyrion.

New chapter is freaking awesome, just wish he would finish the book already. Needs to quit doing side projects for a little while.
I didn't know this last Sunday, but having since read the Mercy chapter, they basically used it for the killing scene. Interesting they are already adapting Winds of Winter before the book is even released  http://www.georgerrmartin.com/excerpt-from-the-winds-of-winter/
Game of Thrones fix is almost gone since I am 100 pages or so from being done with the series. Help! Anyone have any recommendations for some books that are similar to GOT in that they are fantasy/realism/well-rounded characters?
im not really into fiction so i don't know much, but if you're into star wars and if you havent read the thrawn trilogy it is really good
