Clowney is also a risk because he's still the same player he was a season ago. He didn't learn anything new. He didn't work hard at all to get better.
Better thrower than Vick coming out. And Vick was an out of world athlete coming out. Vick had his best year when he was more refined in the pocket. Manziel has potential to be a stud.
Gruden's qb camp is at 6pm on ESPN? Great proday for Johnny. Hope the private work out with the Texans goes well
Schaub's issue had more to do with the physical side than X's and O's...slow with a weak arm, and a mental midget when the pressure was on. That's the opposite of JFF.

Schaub made horrible decisions, whether it was because lack of understanding or being unable to think clearly under pressure, I don't know. My overarching point though is that there is no guarantee that any QB will be able to learn coverages and defenses, even with years in the league. Peyton Manning is living proof that you don't need a strong arm or strong athleticism in order to play at an elite level. what separates Peyton Manning from others is that he lives and breathes football, and he has high football IQ. He knows defenses, he knows player tendencies, he is a coach on the field. This is why I like Bridgewater so much, he has those same qualities.

No doubt there are no guarantees with learning coverages...but natural ability, arm strength, mobility, etc... can get you a long way, even if you arent on the Manning level of intelligence (which maybe one or two players in the entire world are). I dont mind Bridgewater either, but I do think JFF has the higher potential...coaches cant teach Bridgewater to throw harder or be quicker, and he's already a smart dude, so he's not going to be getting coached up too much. On the other hand, Johnny has a lot of physical tools, and most definitely can be coached up a lot. If Johnny can ever learn the X's and O's as well as Teddy knows right now, then he'll be a stud in the NFL. And Schaub just sucks under pressure...I have to throw that in here again, even though it's irrelevant.
I think the plebes need to slow down on the pro day hype No doubt, Manziel had an impressive pro day, better than Bortles and Bridgewater Plenty of qbs have had terrific pro days and sucked in the league Johnny's strength's and weaknesses cannot be found during pro days, they are opened up playing against pads. Fact of the matter is that he needs to: 1. Gain better pocket presence (don't even know if that is possible) 2. Develop his football IQ No matter what you think, those things take time and effort to develop, you don't learn them over night or even over a few seasons. Vick took 10 years to be somewhat serviceable in the pocket. For Manziel its possible but it will take time and a lot of hard lessons to be learned I honestly think the pick is Clowney ( I am very partial to Bridgewater) 1. We have an offense that is talented enough to were 5-6 qbs in the class can jump in and be successful 2. Clowney is the best prospect in this class and the combination with Watt is daunting. 3. BOB is a known qb guru and if he can make Matt McGloin serviceable than he no doubt feels he can do the same or more to a later round qb
Wow he just flicked it deep, I'm glad I don't have Rick Smiths job because this is a tough choice between him and Clowney. If I were Smith, I'd bribe Manziel to fake a serious injury so he can fall out of the first round LoL
too many what ifs to not take jonny. Texans aren’t winning a superbowl next year regardless. Drafting clowney is not going to guarantee any kind of superbowl. If you don’t take johnny that will be the biggest risk of the draft. If he flops fans will forgive you but if another team takes Johnny and becomes a solid starting QB the Texans will never here the end of it. DRAFT JOHNNY
