Forget guard. Who are the best non-centers in Rockets history? Do Hayes and Moses count as PFs or centers(they played before my time). If they don't count, then I guess T-Mac, Clyde, Rudy, Otis, and Calvin would be the guys Harden has to pass? If so, I see Harden reaching that threashhold in 3 years, less if the Rockets make the finals during that time.
I'm not even sure, I love Harden here. I love his game. He knows how to put points up on the board. I loved Tmac too, but I feel Harden has it better here in Houston
Harden scored 12 and 14 points respectively by going to the line. Tmac jacked up 20 shots and went to the charity stripe on one trip and scored 7 points.
Can we wait until the offseason to have this discussion? The careers of the greatest are made in the playoffs. Even guys like Ewing and Barkley and Malone, superstars who never won championships, improved their level of play and got their teams far enough to at least set themselves above the regular-season-only superstars.
He did all the other things which made him a good fit for the team which had Hakeem as a dominant scorer. Clyde of Houston could not carry a team offensively though. One of Portland could. Harden, the way he has been playing, can carry a team offensively.
There's not way too much of a difference between 7 and 12. That being said, I do agree Harden has an elite ability to get to the FT line. After the Rockets have been victim of biased refereeing (Mav in 05 anyone?) for so long, it's nice to have a player who can get to the FT line at will. But regardless, the point was that you can't cherry pick games (on either side) of the equation. It's more fair to look at season or playoff stats as a whole. Using the 13 in 33 is a bad argument to claim McGrady was elite. On the flip side, everyone in the NBA has bad games. Including Harden and McGrady. Anyway, they both have done amazing things on the basketball court. Luckily, in Harden's case, he is still going to do more amazing things. Hopefully for a long time to come. As I said, Harden is becoming unstoppable. It's great to watch.
This is another one of those threads where you can tell that the average age of Clutchfans skews young. Harden is having a great series and he has the potential to be the best Rocket guard but he is not there yet. Drexler's all around career is still much better than Harden's. Harden has a great offensive game but still leaves a lot to be desired on D. while people remember Clyde the Glide with his silky smooth dunks and finger rolls he also was a great defender. While Drexler's peak was behind him when he got here he still was a great player. In 1995 Dream got injured in the second half of the season and Drexler pretty much carried the team into the playoffs. I bagged on T-Mac his last few years but his career offensive numbers were still better than Harden and I would take his first year here over Harden's. Let's not forget Mad Max too. He might not have been as critical to this team as Harden is but he could put up some big numbers when needed, could be a ferocious defender and was one of the few players that could get into Michael Jordan's head.
Moses definitely was at center during his career, Judo, and Elvin was early, and at UH, but when Hayes went to the Bullets after 4 years playing center for the Rockets, he played power forward (and only one year as a Rocket in Houston, damn it, which really pissed me off because I started following the San Diego Rockets when they drafted him #1. He had an incredible rookie year - just ridiculously good. you should check the numbers if you never have - mind blowing!). Wes Unseld played center, and was still playing center when they won their championship in 1978. Sure, Elvin played some center for them, no question about that, but he spent most of his time at the 4 spot, and played at the 4 during their championship year. -
I stand corrected on Hayes. I thought Hayes played center most of his career. Then again this where I am the youngun as Elvin was well before my time so I only really know about him from Rockets' and Cougars' history.

Hardens one of the most prolific scoring guards of all time (check the stats) I don't think any guard other than Jordan scores more "effortlessly" than harden. Dude avg 25 5 and 5 and shoots over 60% ts. Hardens really athletic the hes not is a straight myth. Clearly you don't watch the games or our just a troll. Hardens a stud and while unlikely has a chance to be the 2nd best 2 gaurd of all time. You can't say that about many players. If he wins one championship as the number one guy and has 10 plus seasons of 25 5 and 5 he'll be a top 20 player off all time no problem. He has it all its up to him now and his dedication to bringing it yearly and not just for 5 seasons like Mcgrady. TMac had the talent I speak of like harden he just didn't have the drive and killer instinct but he could do it all and better than most. I think harden had it and playing with KD rubbed off in him. We as Rockets fans our lucky we might be watching our 2nd best player in franchise history. Enjoy!!!!
You misunderstood. Harden has a great shot. Its just i want him to be more aggressive when he takes it, he fakes too much at times and tries to pass it at the last second for a poor shot. Maybe jumping higher would benefit him
Tmac was better. That being said I think harden will see more success in a rockets uniform unlike tmac who was always so damn injured!
