You cant view from it as a "dwight cant post up vs ****ty teams" standpoint. Al Jefferson is a pretty good big who has a big body.
Dwight needs to develop his right hand. That left hook will only take him so far. No excuse to go left EVERY time. Switch it up bro, damn
Every great center could hit a shot outside the lane, D12 doesn't have that shot. Even Shaq had a jump hook outside the lane that was money. Dream's greatest assets were his quickness, foot work, and that fade away and 15 ft jump shot. If D12 want's to be elite he needs to work on a 15ft jump shot. I know it's asking a lot when he can't hit a 15ft free throw consistently.
I know Jefferson is a quality big that's kind of my point. Dwight is gonna be facing mainly solid post defenders in the playoffs, that's why he's gotta play smarter and the coaching staff has to make sure he's being utilized appropriately within the offense. Force feeding him in the post against the quality post defense he will see in the playoffs will no got very well for the Rox I'm afraid.
Holy ****. You would think we were only marginally better judging by some posts on this thread. Dwight Howard is an effective offensive player no matter how you look at it. And his game always gets better in the postseason.
Dwight struggles against good centers from the post. He dominates some games when the center is not so good. Then, when we play teams with good centers, he tends to struggle with his post moves. It's unfortunate. He needs to be more consistent in the post regardless of who is opponent is. Unfortunately, that consistency is elusive for him. It does make one question how effective he will be in the playoffs with his post-up moves. If we continually dump it to him and he throws up bricks or does stupid stuff like turn it over or commit an offensive foul, then we will be out of the playoffs real quick unless Harden just takes over.
The problem with Dwight is that he falls in love with one move and sticks with it indefinitely even if the move is ineffective. Early in the season, his move was the "post up - 2 dribble back down - left hand hook". Then it was the "post up - one dribble - spin base line" and now its the back to shooting hook shots. It's so easy for defenses to guard one move. Unless the move is Shaq's patented "bang-bang-hook", Kareem's sky hook or Hakeem's dream shake, it's pretty simple. So when Howard keeps doing the same moves over and over again, defenses will adjust to him and make him ineffective until he changes his moves. The games where he does do a variety of moves are the games where he looks great from post ups. The first Piston's game, rings a bell. As well as some games against Portland and the Spurs. Once he opens up his whole assortment of moves, he can be very dangerous in the post in today's NBA. Right now, its like he is trying to win a dance contest with only one move.
I guess Metta doesn't find it too detrimental to our team. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Rockets have 68% chance of winning the NBA title</p>— Metta World Peace (@MettaWorldPeace) <a href="https://twitter.com/MettaWorldPeace/statuses/449006538468757504">March 27, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
I think the real problem with Dwight's post move is that he's got a limited array of moves. Once his moves (just 1 or 2) are studied and neutralized, it's almost always a turnover. Hakeem on the other hand, he can do a lot with the ball. He's very creative. I think it will be Dwight's perpetual limitation. He's not as creative as Hakeem with the ball. On the other hand, it might be better to try pick n' roll. That way, it's the ball handler's creativeness and not his.
