They are evacuating one of the 5 buildings in my complex (one closest to the fire). I heard there was a protest about these apartments being built just yesterday because they were too close to the cemetery. I'm hoping this wasn't arson, but the fire is HUGE and the apartments were still under construction. Not sure what else could have started it. Going to go move my car now....
I pass by this construction every day. Whooooooa someone was MAD... Took this and a few other pics: Witnesses are giving their accounts, but most are saying "¿¡¿QUéeeee???!?"
there is nothing "funny" about this, kam. i'm extremely lucky as i was driving right past this complex roughly two months ago. whew... close call.
Current weather conditions on site: temp 66; wind NNE @ 14; Humidity 35%. Temp and humidity are OK. The wind, not so much.
Yep. My guess is they'll write off the main building and put most of the firefighting resources on neighboring structures that will be exposed to the ember fall from the smoke column.
I live right next to it. The only thing between the fire and my house is the Whole Foods. Looks like they've contained the spreading though. Thank god. I have been stressing out the last 30 minutes at work.
KHOU News Story on this Complex dated yesterday 3/24/14. Very strange/coincidental... http://www.khou.com/news/local/Mont...ay-from-century-old-headstones-252118121.html
If so, they either knew what they were doing or got really lucky with point(s) of ignition, orientation of building, and wind direction.
