like most others... abundance of cheap unhealthy food thrown in your face every where you look. correct nutritional information is impossible for most to distinguish. so much slander and misinformation out there. i also HATE the corn explosion in everything. THERE IS NO REASON CORN SHOULD BE SUBSIDIZED. it provides little nutritional value. should not be in feed for animals. should not be in fuel. it requires lots of water to grow, and is hard on the soil. not to mention 90% of corn is GMO. /rant
Most peoples jobs require none to very little physical activity. Most peoples diets are insanely pathetic. Stress is a major problem. Poeple don't work out. Heres a quote from the documentory hungry for change... We do not eat REAL FOOD anymore. We eat FOOD LIKE PRODUCTS and it’s designed to look more tasty, better smelling and longer lasting. The goal of the food industry is NOT to give you a healthy product but to make a product that lasts a long time and makes a lot of profit for the company. Think about that during your next grocery store trip…
I think there is still a quality difference. Even the cheapest bag of bread in Europe doesn't have the shelf life of bread in the US. just in general bread in Europe lasts a few days versus weeks in the US. All of those preservatives and the farther away from proper baking in the US can't help at all. There further seems to be a lot more of an effort for local and not farmed meats. I think that combined with a much more active lifestyle (more walking, fewer hours behind a desk, and way more vacation time for getaways) makes for slimmer people. But it absolutely is noticeable.
For real though, if you can: -Squats -Deadlifts -Brussel Sprouts -Steaks -Windsprints If people lift as hard as they party, the world would be a much more sexy place.
Well, you're right. Maybe I should have put it a different way. Europeans DO have more real unhealthy foods which is more healthy but it doesn't have as great of an effect on how fat you are. The fact that the white bread isn't packed with preservatives is good, and healthier for you, but you'll still get fat from eating so much of it.
These two go hand in hand. Personally speaking, I find I eat much better when I am much more active. When I am inactive and lazy, I prefer quick crappy meals. The side effect of bad eating habits show when you are much more active. I believe saying busy and active is much more important than concentrating on your diet.
You're not alone. I always eat the unhealthiest on days when I don't workout or when I'm at home being lazy catching a Rocket game, movie etc. Don't even get me started on what goes down during Football season. Another thing is sometimes I'm not sure if I'm really hungry or just bored.
Sedentary life style. And fast food.... It's crazy what that combination is doing to the people of Saudi Arabia.
If a person who is 40 lbs overweight focuses solely on diet, they can lose 40 lbs in 4-6 months without much effort with no exercise. I've done it and have seen others do the same. If that person eats the same exact way and becomes "more active", they will be lucky to lose 5 lbs. If increased activity makes a person eat better, you get the best of both worlds. Some people need exercise to become more conscious of how they feed themselves. But the reason the lbs come off is because of reduced calorie intake and better nutrition. That all said, exercise is great for improving health.
I'm doing crunches as I type this. so don't call me, FAAAAATTT? I'm a man! When you buy italian dress shirts, always buy 2 sizes bigger.
"more active" is subjective. You can't go from walking 30 minutes a day to a full hour a day and expect vast improvements. Also, active doesn't necessarily have to do with exercising. What you eat and how much you eat makes a big difference for the typical person. Even sedentary can be subjective. Personally I find lackadaisical a more accurate term than sedentary.
Healthy food takes longer to prepare and is more expensive. I keep several packages of ramen in the desk at work for weeks like this when I am broke. For a $1 you can five days worth of lunch. Fresh meat, veggies, whole wheat breads, fruits are more expensive than processed canned stuff that you can stock up on and they go bad right away so you have to be constantly buying it. I noticed when I was single I could survive off of nearly nothing in terms of groceries. With kids that need fresh stuff I can't begin to fathom how expensive it is and how quickly is spoils if you don't eat it immediately. As others have pointed out we work sedentary desk jobs with psycho commutes and long hours. I'm up at 5 with an hour commute each way and don't get home till 10:30. Exercise? Ha. Sleep? Ha. Eat healthy? Who has time?
I was on an El train in Chicago (Red Line) and these two older guys (50s?) were talking and one was going on and on about how they had so little space to sit because Americans were so fat. But the thing was, he and his buddy were by far the fattest guys in that car. The rest of the people were young, 20-somethings that were all pretty slim. Rude, hypocritical, foreign bastards!
