If you watch the tapes over the last few months you will see that Jones loses his man consistently if the PF is quick. And against the burly bruiser PF Jones cannot maintain position. Therefore D-Mo plays much more than his average against the likes of Blake, Dirk, West and ZBow.

Dmo isn't stopping nobody either pimp. You honestly he would that much better if he was the starter. No sir I don't think so.

Jones' craftiness at the rim does not put him in better sted than DMo and his moves in the paint. It's 6 of one and half-dozen of the other. Besides that..just on pure finishes at the rim...Jones is no better than DMo. Jones shoots 6% better than DMo at the rim...a number so miniscule that a couple finishes by DMo elevates him to the same finishing ratio as Jones. It's a miniscule difference that is negligible.

Besides that....all those great finishes Jones makes....he won't be making those in the playoffs. They'll park his butt on the FT line and make him shoot them since his FT shooting is so bad compared to his finishing ability.

Oh....and Jones gets his finishes by playing alongside Dwight. While DMo gets his playing alongside Asik. Now....of those 2 big man combos...who is going to draw the attention on each one? Dwight/Jones...who is going to draw the defensive attention? Dwight of course. Asik/DMo...who is going to draw the defensive attention? DMo of course. DMo is finishing in the post with the brunt of the defensive attention focused on him.

Bottom line...you're trying to prove something you can't prove. DMo is the best low post offensive player on this team. To try to make a case that Jones is the better finisher.....forget it.

The ONLY skill that Jones has that is better than DMo is his ability to dribble the basketball from end-to-end.....an ability that is not a great need on this team.

You call me a pimp? Christ how low will you go? I am satisfied with the starting lineup. I have never criticized the Rockets coaching staff rotations.

Basically get that name calling crap out of here and go and get some rep by posting analytical threads and concise informative posts. You do not gain anything but a testosterone fix by calling others names. Boy.

Jones and Donuts continue to develop nicely. The huge question, of course, is if they can be consistent impact players on the court during the playoffs. One way or another, that question will be answered. I have my appendages crossed.

Shot selection - Jones takes the best shots in the game (i.e. shots at the rim) the majority of the time while DMo is only taking about a third of his shots at the rim.

Finishing - Jones is better at finishing lay ups and dunks in traffic at the rim. Jones is approximately 5 times as likely to dunk the ball than DMo.

Offensive rebounding - Jones is better at grabbing offensive rebounds. This allows Jones to utilize shot selection and finishing skills.

Running the court - Jones gets down the court without the ball in transition more than DMo leading to more opportunities to use finishing skill.

Cutting to the basket - Jones is better at cutting to the basket than DMo. This allows Jones to use his finishing skill.

All these skills combine for Jones getting over 50% of his shots at the rim and making over 70% of them. For all the skills DMo has offensively, it does not overcome Jones's huge advantage on dunking and getting lay ups on the offensive end.

Granted, I think DMo's improvement defensively may lead to DMo being the better player. Also, I think the odds are better that DMo will become the better shooter and become the better offensive player in the future.

That is the HUGE question. While my heart hopes they do...my eyes and my basketball iq tell me they will not.

In order for this team to win a ring this year with Jones or DMo in the rotation at least one of those guys is going to have to become an effective enough 3-point shooter that the defense has to account for them. Because if they don't the defense will fade off and water down the efficiency of Harden and our other shooters enough to defeat us. I don't know what round it will come in but I know that is what will eventually happen if one of those two guys doesn't start making the 3-ball frequently enough to become a threat that the defense has to account for and play more straight up for.

We COULD....I said COULD...... get upset in the first round because of this fatal flaw in our team...if we draw the wrong match-up.

I should say I am thinking DMo may be the better overall player right now, but want to see a few more games before I reach that conclusion. That DMo and Jones are best near the basket makes me think they won't be more than role players for the Rockets.

Jones absolutely finishes through contact better than D. Mo. Come on man, you say you watch the games. Jones goes into the body of the defenders quite often and gets his shots up on the glass. He shoots a very good percentage underneath the basket and often gets his shot off in traffic with multiple defenders around. D. Mo often spins away from the contact which I have no problem with and shoots one of his little flip shots that he is so good at making. I really don't even see how this is debatable to you.

Finishing plays above the rim is a definitely an ability worth noting. It leads to easy baskets at times in the halfcourt and on the fast break. I don't know why you bring up James White. That is just silly. Saying finishing above the rim doesn't matter should never be brought up on a team that has seen the advanatages that come with being able to throw the ball up to Dwight Howard instead of Omer Asik in certain situations.

A major complaint I have about both of them? Free throws! We have Dream working with our bigs. How about Murph working with them so they at least shoot above 60% from the line? It's a real weakness both have in their game, and very well might make the difference between a win and a loss in the playoffs. Heck, Dream improved his average at the charity stripe after shooting 61% as a rookie. Took him a while to be consistently above 70%, but he got there, and stayed there until his last 2 or 3 seasons in the league. It's a mystery to me why these two fellows can't be at least decent.

A very good take. I do however take exception with your characterization of D-Mo running the court. He is possibly every bit as fast as Jones, or perhaps a little quicker.

D-Mo is actually a better defensive rebounder than Jones. He does not gather as many rebounds but he blocks out every single play. Thus increasing Howard's/Asik's numbers. Jones? He has yet to learn the discipline.

And Jones is a PF. D-Mo is a center. One is a dime a dozen in the NBA and the other a precious commodity. D-Mo looks to be untradable to me because he seems to be slotted in as Asik's replacement once he leaves.

I was responding to the fact that he said that Jones' one offensive advantage over D. Mo is the ability to handle the ball. I disagree with that. The thing is, I really hate that people on this damn board always want to pit one guy against another guy. They are both very diffrent and bring different attributes to the table yet we are constantly on a mission to tear one down to prop up the other. I can make a list for both players about what I like better about them than the other. I would also say that Jones guards the smaller quicker players much better than D. Mo and allows the Rockets to switch more when he is on the floor whereas D.Mo is bigger and stronger and thus has more success against the more physical players. At the end of the day, I like them both and I want both of them to play and I always have. I was advocating for them to trade Patterson and Morris before it even happened because I always felt that these two guys were better overall players and I continue to feel that way despite whatever growing pains or ups and downs they experience in their first real season of meaningful playing time. I'm rooting for both of them and this year, we're going to need them both to step up every now and then to do anything in the playoffs.

Absolutely true. Jones is a power forward. D-Mo is a center (possibly a starting center in the NBA) who can back up the starting power forward. There is a world of difference there. Their roles seem clearly defined to me at this point in their careers.

Thankfully, we still need solid role players and they both have been developing very well despite not having anything catered to them. As for who is better, I think we're finally at that point where DMo starts growing into his higher ceiling. He's showing he should get touches on every possession when he's off the bench. As long as he stays serviceable on defense, we should see him getting more minutes.

Didn't see this post earlier, but based on shot charts on stats.nba.com, Jones is about 16% relative percent difference better and about 10% absolute percent difference better than DMo at the rim. It would take 22 consecutive makes to catch Jones. There is about a 0.0013% chance of that happening.

OK. I am nearing 60. I do not understand context at times. Apologies.

I saw that too and didn't bother to address that because he likes to make up things and switch directions to suit his argument. Just like he said that Jones mainly gets baskets because he gets to play with Dwight and D. Mo plays more with Asik. D.Mo gets a lot of floor time with Dwight and yeah, lets just ignore the fact that Jones scored 30 points the first game Howard missed this year and scored in double figures all 3 games he didn't play while shooting way over 60%. Another fun fact is that D. Mo scored a career high 20 the very next game, also without Dwight playing a single minute.

Are you serious, Jones will get his share of Monsterous dunks during the playoffs.

Ive already said DMo had the better post moves so what are you talking about. I've also said they are equal in talent but bring something different to the table.

I do however love that both players so far have proved your theory of 8-10 rotational player myth wrong.

Aren't you describing a team competitive for the chip? One that can withstand the loss of a star because the role players step up?
