Along with prosperity, which has morphed food into comfort and convenience.

I am FAT and I have an excuse! I use every excuse listed in this thread. I was an athlete in my younger days so I know how to eat properly and how to exercise. My go to excuse is that I work 14 hours a day with about 4 days a month off. I am on the road all of this time and as a driver of an 18.....I'm stopping here because I am tired of using this excuse. F@%# this I don't want to be FAT and I am the only one that can change this.

Good for you, sir. Get up off your chair and stop being fat. :)
Isn't this ILLEGAL? Also, wouldn't that make you SKINNIER?!?!? Unless you're sitting and not moving around the entire day... heck, I'm in IT and I move around and work out at least a couple times a day. WTF (where the F) do you work that they make you work 14 hours a day?

man. awesome post is awesome. it sucks for you cause you really are restrained by work and diner settings by passing fast food after fast food chain in order to make time on your shipment.

the only thing i can offer is pushing through those long tired days and go walking at least a little or maybe when you stop at a rest stop doin some kind of cardio. it would boost your energy for the long hauls as well as your health.

That work schedule is brutal and I feel for ya man. Many people with sedentary jobs like that I know often take amphetamines like Adderall. It will suppress your appetite and also give you more energy and focus.

    In general?

    **** yeah.

But this is also the nation that gave us Bodybulding forums, the most powerlifting meets, the UFC, GOLD's gym, the Beachbody company...the list goes on.

If anybody wants to get fit, swole, or just healthy, the infomation is out there. Heck, if anybody wants to life a fulfilling life, the info is out there (Les Brown, Tony Robbins, etc etc).

However, it's all about personal philosophy and mindset. Those things must planted, and education is at the heart of it all. Math, english, are good classes to have, but GYM, as well as life skills, should be emphasized in schools.

    Because good food costs money.
You can buy a jumbo jack for 1.49.
The alternative is buy 1 banana and an apple for about the same price. If you are a hungry guy which option do you choose.

It sucks the way it is. I think about it a lot when we juice. Even using relatively inexpensive ingredients like apples, tomatoes, cucumbers and carrots, it can cost 10 dollars to make a liter of juice and that is with Costco bulk pricing.

Price of admission is a high for eating healthy.

Advertising tells us that we deserve to eat more, great tasting food. So yeah, blame your kids watching too much television.

When I eat with coworkers form other countries they are amazed at what is presented to them at restaurants. How many fries come as a side. The size of our drinks. The single serving king sized candy bars.

It's not illegal. No one makes me do this, I go from one load to another load and I thrive on this. I've been doing this for over 20 years and it's a lifestyle that becomes addictive.

If we're talking in comparison to other countries, it's not because we eat unhealhy foods.

In my experience, Europeans eat just as unhealthy as us, if not more. Pastries for breakfast, white breads for lunch, and pasta for dinner. They just eat far less than we do. They're restaurants serve a third of what ours do and people seem satisfied.

In the US we're mostly either fit or fat, Europeans are mostly skinny fat.

i've heard from some that this juicing can actually be not such a good thing…..something about taking in too many sugars without the natural fiber to balance it and satiate your feeling of hunger

but you go to a place like Boston where the food is just abundant as in Houston yet Bostonian waistlines aren't as huge. i'm sure that has a lot to do with being able to walk anywhere in Boston. as someone said earlier, the formula is pretty simple. burn more calories than you take in to lose weight. Most of the US doesn't do that.

It sounds like you are a truck driver. I'm not one but have periods where I am working that much plus traveling a lot. I know it's tough to keep in shape living that sort of lifestyle but there are ways.

Believe it or not you can actually eat better for cheap and conveniently. Subways are great for eating healthy at a good price. Just stay away from the mayo, cheese and chips while getting flat bread or the oat bread and you can cut calories there. Get unsweetened ice tea instead of soda (diet or regular) for your drink. If you need to drink coffee to stay up drink it black.

If you stay regularly in motels a lot of them have exercise rooms. Even taking 1/2 an hour on a stationary bike every morning can help or otherwise just do some pushups, situps and squats in your room. If you sleep in your cab you can do some jogging outside before you start your run.

    True on all points.

Concerning Norther Ireland.... they eat a whole lot of starch... potatoes are literally consumed with every meal. However, they do not snack as much, their portions are smaller and they are more active. They do drink a great deal and smoke, but they also have fewer food temptations and less chemically processed foods (although they are gaining on us).

The "fit" people in the USA can out do the "fit" people in Europe. That doesn't mean that our "fit" people are really healthier, but you will see more people in the USA with 6 packs, huge muscles, etc. The reason is that our "fit" people typically have access to gym's and supplements and time that other nations do not have.

I noticed in Europe that their old people are in FAR better shape than ours. They are just more active and get along better. I used to think that maybe their old folks just died off if they had bad health... but there are so many of them, so I think they just have a better lifestyle.

I am very familiar with juicing, and I can tell you that I know some people that did it and it was a really bad idea... and it is a bad idea long term. My wife did it to get down to a size 4 and it was a disaster.

However, I have done it periodically and it has worked very well for me. What it does for me, is reset my appetite. I will drink a lot of juice (from a juicer with LOW sugar items like kale/cucumber) for 4-5 days and eat nothing else. I typically will lose 15-20 pounds over a week (not terribly healthy) and I will notice that my tastes and cravings adjust and I make better meal choices with fewer urges for processed foods.

My brother used juicing when he was modeling in Europe, got him insanely cut and he looked great... for awhile.

I'm not fat. In fact, I could probably use another 5 pounds. Drives my significant other crazy. I eat whatever I want, and it doesn't make a difference. My weight goes up and down in a 3-4 pound range, and has for years.
