At this time of year, I have no reason to believe anything O'Brien says. Even if it is true, if you're a QB guru you still want to go with YOUR guy, no matter the separation. As it stands, we have the pick of the litter. So if OB decides he wants one of the guys that won't be around in round 2, you gotta go with him. We just don't have enough information to assume one way or another.
If you really are a QB guru, the specific QB shouldn't matter if they have comparable skills. He seems to think that "10 or 12" QB's in this class have comparable skills according to the quote, I think that's probably exaggerated, but the real number is probably closer to 6 or 7. Either way, since there is no clear top QB and there is not much separating the QB's that would go at the top from some of the guys who would drop, it would be a mistake to reach on a QB not significantly better than one you can get with your second pick. I also understand the idea that there is a lot of BS floating around this time of year, but BOB seems like a straight shooter and honestly, there's no reason for him to lie, especially not a lie that would make it seem like he wanted to wait on a QB till the second....why devalue the QB's at the top like that? If you were going to lie, you'd think he'd talk up just the top one or two QB's to try and get their value high for a potential trade.
I think both points of view are plausible, and I'm playing devil's advocate to an extent. We just will not know until May. Also there is plenty of reason to lie.
there are no "QB guru's"... Kubiak was a "QB guru". How did that turn out? A good offensive coordinator needs a good/winning quarterback. Nuff said.
I don't know, I think Andy Reid has proven the exact opposite of that statement throughout his career.
Im currently leaning towards a draft combo of Clowney in the first and Jimmy Garoppolo somewhere after. I'll change my mind every day until the draft.
The problem is that there is no way the Browns give up 4 and 26. The only player in the draft worth trading up for is Clowney and I don't think they are interested. Also, Nix got really bad news when he did the medical part of the combine, the kid basically has no knees. I think he's going to drop pretty far in the draft because the odds are stacked heavily against him having anything more than a brief career.
BOB had more to say about this year's QB class today, and it sounds a lot like what several of us have been saying for months. "Being a quarterback coach, it’s important to note there are a lot of quarterbacks who are winners and have played well. My opinion is that I see strengths and weaknesses with every one of these guys. I don’t see one, two or three guys who are light years ahead of the rest" That goes along with his previous statement about there not being much separation in the top 10 or 12 QB prospects.

Unless its the cowboys taking him, I don't see a team that will draft him in the first round. Cleveland needs a qb but doesn't want him they want Carr the Vikings will take either Bridgewater or Bortles, Jacksonville is the one maybe but depending on the defensive prospects I could see the adding more pieces to their already much improved defense. Maybe Philly, but they may sign Sanchez or Prior. So it comes down to Jacksonville or Dallas
Translation: just having the picks themselves doesn't mean anything. It's all about what you do with them.
Excluding Trevardo Williams because I don't think he has any nfl talent, we could have fourteen rookies. I'm excited about the potential of this team
That's funny, I think he has the most talent of the 4 rookies from last year. He's basically a slightly less athletic version of Anthony Barr or an even rawer, slightly less athletic version of Khalil Mack. He's a super speed rusher who has the athleticism to drop into coverage on TE's.
