I first thought you were calling Galveston Bay a hellhole, thinking that the D&D was slinging poo at Texas for an oil spill.

okay let me articulately explain what I was trying to convey..

oil spills don't surprise anyone anymore.. they're a huge deal in actuality and it just melds into the fabric of society as something that just happens..

couple that with this one not being so large and being in galveston (which no one gives 2 ****s about, mostly).. no one was really gonna care.. well what am I saying.. no one cares.

I'm surprised there hasn't been more posting in this thread. This spill isn't looking good for the bay. From what I've read so far it's worse than being reported and it has happened at a terrible time for migratory birds. This is going to be a bad one

On the plus side I guess my daughter will get to experience tar balls on the beach like I did as a kid

Yeah, this one just has the feel of being much worse than what is currently being reported.

As someone who grew up in Southeast Houston and often went fishing on and around Galveston Bay, in fact since I was a child, I'd like to say that you are way off base, OP. I care about it, and I think a lot of others who fish the bay and the coast in the area, or have in the past, care a hell of a lot. What am I supposed to do? Drive down from Austin and march around somewhere carrying a sign decrying the destruction of our own environment? Sorry, but I quit doing that after 1974.

I think the point he was trying to make is not that people don't care but that he was surprised by the lack of coverage/posting about it

I assume most people have fond memories of the bay but it scares me to think what all those years windsurfing in that **** will do to me

You're right about the coverage. I get the point, just don't like the broad brush. The missing jetliner and the Ukraine have pushed the coverage of the spill away from where it should be.

Finally caught up with this tonight on the news -- looks really bad, but it's a fairly small amount (in the grand scheme of things).

I forgot how enormous the ship channel was -- some of the views on NBC news tonight of the HSC and all the huge ships was amazing.

I, too, am interested. Me and friends sail a lot in the Bay.

Any aerial pictures of the spill appreciated.

I remember those as a kid. One summer I spent a week at a beach house and remember having to scrape my feet before I could come inside.
