Isn't there a rule/expectation about creating threads with inaccurate titles?

Why not just post the REAL writer's title? We're able to read this "stuff" without the made-up title and fictional narrative that comes before the so-called thread-worthy material.

This issue just illustrates how little the liberals know about paying taxes. Most aren't even aware that flow through companies make quarterly tax payments. That's the root of this entire disagreement. Drudge is 100% right here. It's nice to see the people criticizing Drudge, though. At least now we can identify those who don't even know the first thing about the tax system.

I was self employed two years ago and didn't pay estimated quarterly taxes (instead paid my total taxes by April 15). While its recommended to do so, there is no requirement to do so.

Any small business owner worth their salt knows to pay profits to the employees/self to minimize business taxes

Or he could have just bought health insurance as it is highly probable he has the means to pay for it. But you're right, that's not really the issue here.

I hope he doesn't ask for emergency care if he ever unfortunately needs it.

Drudge's website could be worth hundreds of millions (HuffPo valuation) by now if he had any sense of business or technical knowledge. Craigslist's stagnant and god awful UI is deliberate.

Drudge is a perfect fit with its namesake, horribly operated and rigid in some irrational attempt to cling to the past.

Ah this is the new line now, stupid self employed person accurately calculating his quarterly tax burden, what a moron right?

What really angers the left and the media is Obama's delay was supposed to push the pain until after the midterm elections, and Drudge is bringing it to light before then.

^I wouldn't call it "anger", well maybe if you call an uptick in McMark's forced and similarly tired replies as a gauge of Leftist Anger.

What Drudge pulls is more of the same tired antics for it to be "anger". It's great hatebait for it's target audience. People like you, Commodore.

    Meanwhile in reality....

Obamacare Effects Account for Most of Income, Spending Increases

    http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2014...ccount-for-most-of-income-spending-increases/

The Commerce Department reported Monday that consumer spending rose a better-than-expected 0.4% and personal incomes climbed 0.3% in January. The new health-care law accounted for a big chunk of the increase on both fronts.

On the incomes side, the law’s expanded coverage boosted Medicaid benefits by an estimated $19.2 billion, according to Commerce’s Bureau of Economic Analysis. The ACA also offered several refundable tax credits, including health insurance premium subsidies, which added up to $14.7 billion.

Taken together, the Obamacare provisions are responsible for about three-quarters of January’s overall rise in Americans’ incomes.

Of course, what the government gives, the government can take away. Case in point: The late-December expiration of a federal program that provided extended aid to unemployed Americans reduced benefit payments $16.7 billion.

Excluding special factors, the Commerce Department said personal income increased a more moderate $23.7 billion, or 0.2%, in January, after falling $15.1 billion, or 0.1%, in December. So it hasn’t been a very good winter for American households.

Also worth noting: The payments are categorized as “transfer receipts.” That is, the money is transferred from one household to another via government taxes.

On the spending side, the BEA is assuming Obamacare is responsible for a $29 billion increase in health-care services. Separately, spending on utilities also saw a big jump due to rising demand for heat during the cold stretch.

Outside of the two categories, consumers spent less: Overall spending on goods declined for the second straight month.

“So there is indeed evidence of a shift in the composition in spending — consumers in January spent more on heating bills and health care at the expense of other goods and services,” said Michelle Girard, economist at Royal Bank of Scotland.

To be sure, the health-care numbers only represent the BEA’s best guess based on preliminary data. “Information on Medicaid benefits, on ACA insurance exchange enrollments, and other related information was used to prepare the estimates of consumer spending on these services,” the agency said.

So the figures could be heavily revised as more information — directly about the new health-care law — becomes available. [/rquoter]

Which of course makes total sense, since the Republicans are typically the ones paying the taxes!

I'd bet Drudge has health insurance. Just not one that meets the ACA minimum requirements.

This, the whole design of ACA is for young healthy people to subsidize old/sick by purchasing overpriced plans.

A super inefficient form of wealth redistribution, with the insurance companies taking their guaranteed cut off the top.

There's even an insurance company bailout built into the law in case not enough young/healthy dupes sign up.

I see no controversy. If someone who is self employed wants to pay his 2014 taxes on a quarterly basis, is not insured, and estimates his or her tax penalty at $95, or 1% of their income, or whichever is greater(FOR NOT HAVING HEALTH INSURANCE), they should feel free to do so.

They are not required to do so, until April 2015.

All of this seems so obvious.

What is telling is that there are still members here that think republicans "typically" are the ones paying taxes.

The old 45% of the country doesn't pay taxes routine.

No this is how health insurance as a concept is designed. Because of the exorbitant cost of healthcare insurance pools must be designed to spread the cost across as many people as possible. This is different from say car insurance where the high risk individual will pay higher premiums than a low risk. With an employer pool everyone pays the same regardless of risk like age or previous claims. This system falls apart if it is voluntary because only those creating claims will want coverage. The young healthy forgo the coverage because they know they still have the ER in case of a catastrophe. Of course when that bill comes due they don't pay further exacerbating the problem.

The PPACA is only trying to fix a broken system. But as just every other country has figured out health insurance as a concept does not work.

As you stated the insurance company is acting as a middleman taking their cut. I assume you will support a full public system now that eliminates all of these problems?

No, it should be more like car insurance, as you said.
