I tried this place in the east end yesterday called oak leaf smoke house. It was pretty good and very reasonably priced. I wish them luck.

Jerry Mikeska's BBQ between Houston and Austin is pretty good.

It's better than when it was back then.

    Went the other day.

We office out there, it has been really good everytime we went in the last two months.

But it is a rub BBQ, not a sauce style.

I recently read somewhere that Hutchin's in McKinney was rated the best BBQ in D/FW. I've eaten there a few times. I had no idea it was that well thought of. I don't eat enough BBQ at enough places often enough to know what's better than what. Anyone ever eat there?

May as well have said "Peter's BBQ" in Ellinger: where the prices are made up and the flavors don't matter.

I have...twice. Let me put it this way, there's no reason to drive out to Hutchin's from Frisco when there's a Rudy's 5 minutes from my house.

If I'm in McKinney to eat, it's either at The Pantry or Cafe Malaga.

Found a new BBQ joint called Brooks Place BBQ on FM529 and Barker Cypress. Freaking fantastic! Really smokey taste, great tangy BBQ sauce. Best BBQ I've ever had in Houston. I had the brisket and ribs, really impressed. I think it was about $18 a pound so it's a little pricey but damn good. He said they've been there 5 years but I hadn't heard of it until recently.

Both of you guys beat me to it. I quit going there years ago (Jerry Mikeska's at Columbus). The location is great for lunch on the way back to Austin from Houston, but the Q just doesn't reach my minimum standards. Not even close (unless things have changed dramatically!)

Had Stiles Switch for lunch today (bad Catholic). Brisket was wack, but the spicy sausage and pork ribs were very good. Not bad for a no-wait BBQ establishment.

Hard 8 in Roanoke was pretty decent, not the best BBQ ever, but definitely not bad by any means.

Best BBQ in Texas: Black's (Lockhart)

Best in Houston-area: Corkscrew (Spring). Amazing customer service and free Lone Star beer on Saturday. Great little pop up Q stand just the ones in the ATX.

Killeen's in Pearland is just as good. Only drawback is that they charge NYC prices and their portions are extremely small.

Really? That's kind of sad. Make money get paid, I guess.

You can never recreate the same vibe and the same atmosphere: that goes for beer joints, bbq joints, roadhouses, holes-in-the-wall, dive bars etc....

That's not really fair. It's the American dream. Good for the kids to make something new and make good lives for their families. We don't need to romanticize food joints.
