Larry Bird: on suggestion Pacers signed Bynum to keep him from signing w heat "That's about the dumbest thing I've ever heard." Bynum: "In all honesty, I think we've got the best chance of winning. It will be great to back up Roy, and I'll do whatever I can to help this team."
The Pacers, who had a roster spot open, have $2.1 million left of their midlevel exception, and could use some or all of it on Bynum. But the Pacers are roughly $1.8 million below the luxury-tax threshold, and Bird has said repeatedly they do not plan to pay the luxury tax. -ESPN
Frankly, it is a great move. It's not a great move because they will have a solid backup in him, but the only team Indiana has to worry about is the Heat. If Heat were to sign him, it would be an interesting development.
offensively he could give the heat more problems than even hibbert. great for the pacers if/when hibbert gets into foul trouble, not to mention just being a great option to give hibbert a good rest. love the move. their 2nd unit could almost be a playoff team on its own if they were all healthy. CJ Watson, Danny Granger, Luis Scola, Andrew Bynum
That's a pretty big move for Pacers. They are stacked enough and just add another big piece. If he want to go bowling, just put him on DNP all season. It's perfect.

I wouldn't want Bynum to play for the Rockets if it was for free. All the talent in the world, and no brains, career knucklehead
can't really see a down side for the Pacers on this move. If Bynum becomes a distraction or locker room cancer, than they can just put him on the inactive list.
I'm surprised you guys actually watched Bynum play for the Cavs this year and came away thinking that he's still a good center, or that him going to Miami would be bad for the Pacers. He can barely move.

How much did the Cavs pay him? Half of his $12m? How is it possible their medical team couldn't figure out that his knees are done? Or is it that he tells teams he'll play through the pain and then decides against it?
If knees are full of fluid after a couple games of backup minutes, it's not a question of what a player wants to do. His knees are just that bad. He's an insane talent though. Even these couple games, after missing a bunch of time, not fully in shape, no lift at all, he's still impressive offensively. No center has better hands than Bynum as far as catching the ball, scoring touch inside, the ball sticking to his fingers on in-area rebounds. I fully understand the Cavs gambling 6 mil if they thought that there's even a small chance of him staying healthy. They just misjudged the chemistry angle. It should've been done by a team with a strong locker room, not the Cavs. The whole situation reminds me of the Celtics period Shaq. Playing at 50% and still a difference maker, but it just makes it so much sadder when he inevitably breaks down.
