football IQ is important, something Teddy has. FV Santiago believes in general intelligence, something unknown if Teddy has or not.
Guys, as far as stop-gaps go, I can't think of a better one. He gives you 1 great game for ever mediocre game, and 1 terrible game every 4 games. I'll take it.
Called this as a smart move a few days ago. How can you possibly complain about this? What vet QB would you naysayers rather have? He was 16th in QBR (ahead of Roethlesberger, Stafford, Flacco and Smith) and will probably only be a bridge QB.
I agree with this, and I'm a card-carrying member of the anti-Schaub mass. Although if the options are: Schaub, or, trade Schaub for a pick and sign Fitz, I'd take latter.
Same here, I'd take the pick as compensation for the step down at QB. I'm hoping a 2nd round QB can come on fairly quickly so that we don't have to deal with Fitz for THAT long.
Well, we all know tanking is not an option with Bob McNair and rarely happens in football anyway. I absolutely want to win games next season, but I also want to heal our cap wounds. Vick is exciting, yes, and could conceivably get us a couple of more wins, but the guy is injury prone and terribly inefficient as a QB. My guess is he'll get a 2 year deal worth about $12-14mm and $5-6mm guaranteed from the Jets or Raiders. That uses up about half of our remaining space this year and further strains us going into next offseason (where we will be trying to re-sign JJ).
thought this was funny and interesting considering the guy: Fitzpatrick played his first NFL game on November 27, 2005. Coming into the eleventh game of the regular season in the second quarter against the Houston Texans to replace injured veteran journeyman Jamie Martin, Fitzpatrick led the Rams from a 24–3 halftime deficit to a 33–27 overtime win, throwing for 310 yards and three touchdowns, completing 63.3% of his passes and 117.4 QB rating for the game. This made Fitzpatrick one of only seven players who passed for more 300 yards in their NFL debut.
Regarding "intelligence" - Anybody ever seen that astronaut test, where the candidate sits in a chair in a apparatus randomly spinning on multiple axises while random lights flash and random buzzers go off, an the candidate has to operate some sort of simulator? Football intelligence has nothing to do with visualizing quantum mechanics, or getting a high score on the SAT's. It is essentially the ability to think coherently and process visual information in the face of intense sensory distraction. I know most people are ridiculing the concept of football intelligence when they bring up the fact that Fitzpatrick went to Harvard, but it is a thing, and it is essentially unrelated to academic intelligence.
We had terrible coaching and terrible QB play...yet, we lost 9 games by 7 points or less. This team has at least 8-8 talent. We wont sniff a top pick next season.
It's pretty obvious, yet it seemly has to be said over and over again. It's amazing that they managed to lose as many games as they did last season.
Who's to say we'll have a top 3 pick next season? BOB isnt going to be crossing his fingers for a 3 win season...and he's surely not going to bypass a QB this year and risk not getting a top QB next year. Again, McNair has stated, before the offseason began, that the team would look to sign a vet...this would be happening even if we had already declared Teddy/Bortles/JFF as the first pick of the draft. The Texans will be selecting a QB...unless they pick Clowney and roll with the combo of Schaub and Fitz as 1a and 1b.
