Trying to understand how the plane could end up near the coast of Australia, how does that compute with the stuff about radar saying that the plane turned around towards Malaysia? Weird. And what about the talk of foul play? I sort of doubt that someone would hijack the plane just quietly crash it into the sea off the coast of Australia? What's the point?!!

I think we can all agree that if this ends up as being nothing more than trash floating........our oceans are screwed! We have China and Australia mistaking large chunks of common trash as 777 parts........wow!

But John Young of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority cautioned Thursday against expectations that this may help solve the mystery of the plane that went missing with 239 people on board nearly two weeks ago.

Young told reporters, "We have been in this business of doing search and rescue and using sat images before and they do not always turn out to be related to the search even if they look good, so we will hold our views on that until they are sited close-up."

Why so eager to hold a press conference and release the news about images found by satellite if this is the case??? Could have waited until confirmation.

Exactly. If these pieces turn out to not be the plane, it will just add more fire to the theories. They should have waited and made sure these were actual pieces of the plane before having a press conference. I got about 8 breaking news alerts last night. I thought they had found something but just to find out it's a "maybe".

It was being reported a lot before any official announcement, with soo many people involved there is going to be leaks so may as well officially tell people what is happening, especially those poor families and let them know what's fact at the moment.

Man, if the producers of that show had a little bit more "foresight", given these events, they could go back and make a new show with nothing but the "reaction" of the real world as to the "disappearance" of the plane, and what steps they went through to investigate it.

One reason people have hopes for this sighting, I believe, is that it falls right on the satellite contact arc of possibilities:

I have to say, the way the Australian media has been covering this is gross. It's tabloid, click baiting s**t. I've avoided reading any of it.

This is it. The prime minister of Austrailia announced it. No way he puts himself out there like that. Not being a Malaysian official has to be a huge step up in credibility.
