Carr is in a gimmick offense, I know that. I also know that Bortles' offense is supposedly a pro-style offense, yet he hardly takes snaps from under center, and he relies on a lot of quick developing plays. I also realize we could employ this type of offense. In my opinion, though, (and let's face it, they're all opinions) Carr shows better footwork and a quicker release with better velocity than Bortles. Now, I haven't watched a ton of tape, like our front office guys presumably will, but that's what I feel based on what I've seen. I would venture to guess that Carr is also well ahead of Bortles in the mental department, too, but this is a guess. Carr has been around higher-level football since he was very young, and this is why I venture to say that. If Bortles had control of his offense, like Teddy did, then that makes me want Teddy even more (versus Bortles) because Teddy's offense was far more in tune with what you'd see in the NFL, and he made far less mistakes than Bortles. This is not something I'm going to debate you about, either, because I know it will go nowhere, and I also realize that it doesn't matter.

I agree. Blake doesn't take as many snaps from under center as Teddy does and no where as polished. He still needs work and he's mostly all arm on his throws. He still needs work. But on a majority of Teddy's snaps from under center are bootlegs and he throws short check down passes off of most of them. Just go watch the bowl game from last year. Most of (if not all) of his big plays came out of the shotgun...
I can agree with that. I still think that the simple fact that Teddy is running more bootlegs, and more longer dropbacks makes him more polished. I can see why some would call UCF's offense pro-style, but I don't really consider it one because of the fact that there are very little snaps from under center taken in it. There's very little play action. Not much in the way of boots. It's mostly shotgun, snap and throw, or shotgun, three steps and throw. To me, it's more a rhythm thing (although people have disagreed on this before) than a pro-style thing. My thing with Bortles is that he has the size and the physical features, but I feel he has a lesser arm than two of the top 4 quarterbacks in the draft. I feel he needs a ton of work on his footwork. His decision making is average. He needs a ton of work. He could be good, but we've seen this not pan out a bunch of times as well. No way would I draft him top five, and probably not even top 10. That's actually a big thing with this entire class. The big names all have potential at qb. They all could be great. They need the right situations, though. They need the right group around them. It's not an Andrew Luck thing where you felt like, no matter where he got drafted, he'd be great there.

That shows the kid has an arm _ he just needs work. And the reason I can see why O'Brien may want him because we're not winning anything next year anyway. When a quarterback runs bootlegs from under center it keeps them from having to read all of the field. Just like Schaub in Kubiak's system because you're only going to have 1 or 2 reads and a check down option. That's why I always thought VY would have been good in Kubiak's system. I do think Teddy is going to be a good quarterback but him being possibly ready to start right out the gate is meaningless because the Texans would be crazy to put Teddy or Johnny behind that offensive line. I think it's just going to come down to preference but it will take a lot of guts for O'Brien to pass up a big name guy like Teddy or Johnny for some no name guy like Blake.

I don't Blake is a no name guy in the sense of his skills. I have said this before but he reminds me of Luck. An unrefined Luck with flaws that Luck didn't possess in college and an arm that is not as strong. But I think he rolls out better than Luck and may even be a slightly better runner. And he does have that great NFL size that you can't teach. What concerns me is his footwork and balance issues in the pocket. And overall his ability to perform under pressure. If he can fix that he has so much upside. Also if Bridgewater was not in the draft I would consider him number one overall. I would be worried about the pick because You have to hope he will fix those problems.
Jacksonville signed Henne and said he's more than likely going to be the starter going into next season. The same with Cassel in Minnesota. So that possibly means those teams may not draft a quarterback in the 1st round. Cleveland and the Raiders reportedly have interest in Schaub if he gets released and Vick and McCown are on the market as well. The Texans may have their choice of Blake, Teddy, and Johnny in the 2nd or at least a choice of two of them if a few more of these teams fill their quarterback needs before the draft.
Both contracts are for like $4 or $5 mil, and that's called bridge QB/ vet backup money. It's about what Buffalo paid Kolb the year they drafted a 1st round QB. It's the kind of contract that gives a team a plan B in case they can't find their franchise QB in the draft. It didn't stop buffalo from taking a QB in the 1st round, and it won't stop Minny or JVille. The only difference is that now they don't have to reach on a QB ...which is what got them in trouble in the first place with Ponder and Gabbert.
Cushing off roids and HGH is just an average player -- the last few times i've seen him he looks really slim for his position.

Exactly and that's why I said they may not draft a quarterback in the 1st. Just depends on how much a team really loves one of these quarterbacks.
I'm really starting to like Bortles, he's a very solid football player with a good head on his shoulders and I have no doubt he will be successful in the league, eventually. But nothing I have seen from him has deterred me from thinking the best pick is to take Clowney and let out defense set the tone for this team. Mallet via trade or Manziel, Goropolis or Logan Thomas in later rounds with good line help can be good enough in the O'Brien system to get the job done
Bortles could be the best QB pick, but I'm with you, nothing I've seen makes me think ANYONE is close to Clowney in this class.
