He's shown flashes, but you guys shouldn't be too excited. Only plays for Bayern's 2nd team and barely has any pro experience. Won't be a help in Brazil WC, but he could have a good future.

That's nonsense, even Bayern's second team only plays in the 4th German league and would possibly be crushed by any good MLS team. You guys seriously overrate Green, he has no pro experience in a good league and is atm nothing more than a prospect.

How can you even make a statement like this, you probably don't know jack about German football and are pulling this out of your azz. Bayern's second team is playing in the, have to repeat myself, 4th league and doesn't even dominate or lead it.

The US media and you guys make him sound like an established player that's on the verge of stardom, really confusing. Guess him being a Bayern player makes you think he's automatically world class and a game changer in every other league.

Just curious, how many of you US guys have seen him play in a live game? All this “f*** yeah“ and hyped posts from guys I think have never seen him actually play.

It's still a bit weird for me to get excited about a 5'7" skinny dude. I guess I'm used to American sports where you have to be tall and/or muscular, for the most part, to be a star. Then you see these little skinny soccer midgets and are like, "huh?? that dude's an athlete?"

Sadly, yes, they would. As Jontro said, they play in the 4th division in Germany. I know some of those guys. Since the current assistant coach of the pro team stopped training the second team, they have gone downhill. The last gems who came out there were Alaba, Badstuber, Mueller (before that, Kroos, Lahm, Schweinsteiger). Right now, I don't see anyone except maybe Hojbjerg (sp.?) who could make the jump to the pros and ever become an impact player for Bayern. And that includes Green.

Bayern needs to improve their youth concept and their second team. I thought that was part of what Sammer was brought in for.

It's amazing you were able to hit "Enter" considering how much you must've been giggling to yourself as you typed out this post.

Texxx sometimes chimes in these soccer threads and seems genuinely interested in the sport and the progress of the USMNT. But, dude. How many times do you have to make this argument on the BBS?

I am in fact genuinely interested in the sport, and the US team (Germany is actually my second favorite team, due to my experience working there).

I guess the issue you're talking about is that I think the US doesn't get its best athletes to play soccer. I still stand by that. The sport just isn't popular, so the pool of people who play it is far less than other countries. Pretty easy to understand logic as to why the US is so average on the world scale. We have to get these foreigners like Green/Altidore/Johansson/Adu/Jones, etc to play for us since we don't have the local talent.

I haven't seen him play but I view this a good move simply because we're in a no-lose situation. If he ends up being a bust then we move on and if he ends up being a good player then it could really help our team.

Klinsmann: "Hey Julian, we really need you."
Julian: "Yeah, but y'all kind of suck at soccer."
Klinsmann: "Well......yes, but what if I let you start in this World Cup, how does that sound?"
Julian: "Well of course I would start, were you going to play a MLS player over me?"
    Klinsmann: "So.....is that a yes?"

Where are you from? This is ridiculous, judging by your name you're from the Houston area or something close. You probably have never watched a minute of German 2nd, 3rd or 4th division football and don't know any of the players. And then you make these statements and “lol“ at a comment from someone like me, who lives in Germany, follows all the leagues, has been to live games of the lower divisions and has been a Bayern supporter for his whole life? Seriously, wtf?

Maybe the "F*** Yeah" was a bit over the top. Still, it's great to see a player that most would agree has a bright future chose the US. Yes, he obviously has a greater chance to play in this WC than the 0% chance he had with Germany. Why can't we be excited to gain a player that appears to be on his way to stardom...even if it's years away?

Any one that mentions Freddy Adu is doing it wrong. I said from the beginning that it was a huge mistake for him to have ever stepped foot in the MLS at that time. He had the opportunity to do what Green and many other US players are doing now...go to Europe and play in the youth system for one of the top clubs. Learn from them how to play at that level and how to be a professional. Freddy and his family didn't give him that chance and I believe it ruined what could have been a very bright career.
