Again, they had nearly identical rookie seasons, there's no way to say one way or the other. Did you think that Josh Gordon would turn out like Josh Gordon this time last year? Also, 800 yards and over 50 receptions in a rookie year is pretty amazing...for both of them.

Brown wasn't coming off of injury when he got his deal like Cushing and Schaub was. Those where bone head moves. The Texans got suckered with J-Jo's contract. And they've been restructuring Johnson's contract so much that it is now time to pay the piper.

And don't get me started on these draft picks. Merciless, Reed, and DJ could all be cut after this year if they don't get it together.

I pretty much agree with this. They drafted and developed players terribly. That's on the GM and coaching staff. The texans haven't overspent, rather they're just not getting the production from their players on rookie contracts because our roster isn't nearly as talented as pundits think it is.

Crick isn't gonna replace the ninja, so we'll have to spend. Brooks Reed is a bust, so we'll have to spend. Rick smith never drafted a decent corner other than Jackson, so we'll have to spend. Etc, etc.....

If you look at all the 2nd 3rd 4th 5th round picks Rick Smith has made, very few of them have been quality contributors.

We'll see. I think Crick could replace Ninja because the scheme is going to call for a 2 gap DE in base packages and that's right up Crick's alley. Also Brooks Reed will move to ILB, which should be a much better fit for him.

Hopkins had the benefit of playing with Dre.. Which means Hopkins mostly saw one on one coverage and didn't have to face the best defensive back. Plus Hopkins YAC was pathetic. He catches the ball and goes down. Gordon didn't have the benefit of being on the field with someone like Dre. This is also why Keenan Allen is so good because he didn't have the benefit of playing with a #1 receiver like Dre and the reason why Hopkins was a reach in the 1st round.

I'm not doubting that Hopkins won't be great, but you have to remember that Gordon did all of this with no other threat on the outside(only other pass catching threat was the TE Cameron) while teams still respected Andre last year. Both did suffer from woefully inconsistent QB play and Hopkins was not targeted nearly as much as Gordon, but I see Gordon being a top 3 WR for years to come(barring he stays healthy and out of trouble). Hopkins has undeniable top 10 potential, and could easily develop into that top 3 type guy, but I personally think he would be much much better as the #2 guy on a team(and could easily become the best #2 WR in the league). I do agree that he was a great pick for where he was taken, and hope that he does turn into that top 3 WR type player.

On a related note, the Browns have a lot of talent on their roster. If they had a competent front office, they'd be a real threat in the AFC(depending on who's their QB obviously)

Well in a lot of ways that's an advantage, since he was the only guy to throw to, he got more receptions than he otherwise would have. Also, Gordon seemingly came out of nowhere, he didn't have anywhere near the college success that Hopkins had so I'll be interested in seeing if he can build upon his breakout season or if he'll be a one year wonder sort of.

well Gordon kinda threw his college career out the window at a Taco Bell, but I knew about him cause he's a Houston product. And I know fully well how good Hopkins was at Clemson(he burned my LSU secondary :()

But if we had them both...(a boy can dream, can't he?)

They are both two young guys to keep your eyes on moving forward. I'd love to have both of them too.

I strongly suspect he was never the lone decider on draft picks or contracts, and it wouldn't surprise me if he had even less power now. Just because Uncle Bob didn't fire him doesn't mean anything. I don't think BoB (or any up and coming coach) is going to take a head coaching job where their opinion isn't the most favored in the room.

We need a qb to come in and play at a top flight level this year

The Broncos are building a super team

Nah, we just need a dominant defense and a good solid QB to hand the ball off to Foster and protect the ball. We'll get that QB at the top of the 2nd round and all will be right with the world.

Id rather chance having a dominant qb and a solid defense that gets turnovers in key situations.

I have no faith in these later round qbs

Get Bridgewater, BoB will mold him in Rodgers 2.0 and we will be kicking

I'd love to have a dominant QB, and if there was one available in this draft class, there would be no discussion about who the pick was going to be. I highly doubt the Texans coaching staff share your delusions about Bridgewater (PBUH) being the next Rodgers/Manning/Montana/God so they'll hopefully go with BPA which should be either Clowney or Mack in an effort to solidify our defense rather than reaching on a QB.

Your tune will be very different next year after Bridgewater's (PBUH) rookie year.

Sure, it could be, but I don't think he'll take the Jags very far and might not even make it through the season since he'll have to face Clowney, Watt, and Cushing twice.

Saying he was a beast sort of oversells it, he had one pretty good year with 42 receptions for 714 yards. That's good, but not beastly IMO.
