I would agree but with a bit of a twist - there's a legitimate QB prospect (Carr/Bridgewater) and an overhyped QB prospect (Harrington/Brotles/Manziel) who a team will regret taking. (Of course, I recognize a team regretted taking Carr but I have much greater faith in BOB than I did Capers.) I know hindsight and fuzzy memeories can easily recast history, but David Carr was a monster prospect, and a considerably better pick than Harrington. Check out their final seasons: Carr ('01): 344/533 (65%); 4,839 yards; 43 TDs; 9 INTs; 9.1 YPA (14 starts) Harrington ('01): 214/364 (59%); 2,764 yards; 27 TDs; 6 INTs; 7.6 YPA (12 starts)
I think Bridgewater is more accurate than Luck too Luck gets a bad rap because of his propensity to throw picks but he is a very good qb though. I agree though, Ill take Baby Rodgers of Baby Luck in a minute
Carr was considered a very good QB prospect during his senior year @ Fesno State and put up very good numbers in a system in the WAC (considered inferior competition, plus Carr had the prototypical QB look/measurables). The knock on Carr was his low throwing angle and ability to grasp offensive sets since the OC called all the plays in the system that was run. Harrington was completely overrated due to the fact that he played for Nike U. However, months prior to the draft, the Texans announced who they were taking first overall, it was literally the worst kept secret in the NFL. If the Texans were to go QB first overall, I'd rather it be Bridgewater. But truth be told I'm a defense guy and would love to see Clowney taken first overall or trade down and take Mack (presumably with Cleveland or Atlanta).
Yeah the main difference between Carr and Bridgewater (PBUH) is that Carr had the size and Bridgewater (BPUH) should grasp the playbook better. They both have the low release point and they both played inferior competition in college.
This and Khalil Mack shooting up the draft boards (like Dwight Freeney) are very reminiscient of 2002.
Yeah, it really is. Possibly, we'll never know. However, our O line is pretty brutal right now, so maybe we'll get to see a David Carr ruined again.
Oh no. No possibly to it. David Carr was a good QB ruined by a bad team. The OL now is much better than that one was.
All you have against Bridgewater is his size? What if he shows up 30lbs heavier? IMO, his size won't make a difference. His playing so called inferior competition won't matter. He has the skill to overcome that. I bet many thought he would be too small to play QB in college. He has probably gotten this same criticism all his career.
This is a myth. Carr was the last to arrive and first to leave and was a prima donna pretty boy, more concerned with looking good than being good. The crappy line didn't help, but he had all the characteristics of a guy who doesn't ever make good on physical tools, in a long line of NFL QB busts where decision makers fall in love with physical tools, like ranchers buying cattle at the rodeo, and fail to pay attention to the actual person that is inside the head. Also, beyond that, I've never seen anybody who was as completely incapable of throwing a pass at anything other than full velocity, though the lack of touch could have been worked around, while the disinterested human being could not have been.
No myth my friend. The league record in getting sacked proves it. David Carr was shell-shocked from year one on.
I don't argue that the line didn't suck. I argue that the sucky line was causation for Carr's suckitude. To go back to the most oft-repeated phrase on the internet, "Corelation does not equal causation."

This is a myth... Carr should have never been drafted with the #1 pick period. No amount of film study would have helped him. He couldn't adjust to NFL speed and big time pressure. He had the tools but lacked the skills to utilize them. This is a myth too... Carr was gun shy out the gate because he couldn't read defenses and execute under pressure. He didn't face that in college and a quarterback can't hold the ball forever in the pros (unless they were facing the Texans last season). A good percentage of those sacks were on Carr and not the offensive line. And if he was truly shell shocked _ he was weak to begin with.
Mayock saying that if you have any doubts about the QB in this class, don't take one at the top of the 1st. The position players are just too good. Do you hear that all you QB enthusiasts? All of you, "we have to draft a QB" people! If we draft any of these QBs at #1 it's gonna be really hard for me to get on board knowing that Robinson, Watkins,Clowney, Mack, and Matthews are the better players.
