Some people seem to be accusing them of pulling a bait-and-switch. They DID seem to promote visual improvements, which actually seemed odd to me (no one really cared about that, though it was appreciated). The "downgrades" seem quite substantial, and some seem to be thinking that maybe they just had a "pretty" version of the game they would use to show it off. Or something along those lines.

I don't want to go that far. It does seem odd that some of these downgrades were done very recently (recent playable builds still seemed to have the good lighting for example), but it doesn't seem far-fetched that they just decided to ax the feature at the last minute. It is a difficult thing to do at the last minute (it really changes the aesthetics for the game), but it happens in game development.

It isn't so much the downgrade that would bother me, but the possibility of being misled about what game we'd actually be playing. They could have shown CG trailers the whole time and released a game that looks like it could be playable on the PS2. And I would have still bought the game. But I agree that this does seem to make me a bit uncomfortable if developers continue to do this for games.

I'm too lazy to really investigate this that much. As with much of you, the "downgrade" by itself doesn't bother me. But you guys know me. I nitpick about the smallest things, and I love giving developers/publishers a hard time. Even the ones I really like. :)

Oh wait a minute. I actually got my guide book yesterday. I forgot about that. I guess I don't have to worry about any downgrades with my version of the game. The complex lighting system is still in place in RC Cola's imagination. :p

The one problem is that the downgrade in lightning kinda throws the whole torch system out the window. The idea was that you'd *have* to use a torch to be able to see in dark areas at all. But with the lightning now being way less dynamic and more diffuse/burnt in, even in rooms that are supposed to be very dark you can still see. A pity. It would've added a new element that just isn't really there now. Although I expect it will be fine in the PC version.

I hope they do eventually release it on next-gen consoles. Would definitely buy it again, I've got no problems there.

The difference is sickening, they advertised the new graphics, lightining system and the effects on gameplay(torches, etc) so hard. Also, heard the images on the game's box/case are showing the TGS build, this is really deceiving and a middlefinger to the customers.

I will be leaving that covenant after the Rockets game. I have been having a lot of trouble making progress, and I am a seasoned player of Demon's and Dark Souls...

Don't really know what the fuss is about the visuals. Wasn't really following the game and picked it up on the whim because I loved Demons Souls and to a lesser extent, Dark Souls.

Difficulty wise, Dark Souls > Demon Souls > DS2.

I consistently have too much souls that I can't spend. Currently have 165k sitting and tried blowing it by buying everything the shops offer, but I gain it all back easily. Love the new warping/travel feature between bonfires. Don't remember if DS1 had it, but I really disliked having to run all across the map to go to a certain area.

Trying to stay with a low level build like I did the previous games to see if I can finish it. At level 22, but I feel like I'm getting invaded by players much higher level than I am. I slash them for 300+ dmg and it barely hurts them, where as they slash me once and I'm nearly dead. Playing a hybrid mage/warrior.

So you're supposed to kill the ogres out in the beginning of the game before leaving the area. Milibeth rewards you with the "Handmaiden's Ladle." Except I only killed one and then came back later. No Ladle. And the coffin was supposed to change your gender.

There's more than one? I killed the single one I found and didn't get the Ladle either.

I made way more progress tonight, but I have to credit the knight shield I spent 1500 souls on last night (I quit playing after) as much as leaving the 'champion' covenant (or whatever you call it). I love my knight shield. The last thing I did tonight was get it upgraded to +1.

Eh? I don't get it. I'm assuming you can still level. Unless your character is so pumped that it takes more than 165k for a single soul level. But I'm pretty sure it's impossible for anyone to have played that much at this point, the game's only been out for three days. I'm around level 100 and my level-ups only cost about a tenth of that.

    FYI No Mans Warf

Pharros Stone will light up the place so have one handy. There are these spider monster things that broke my sword twice already. Speaking of which there is a house at the very top that has 5 of them plus two chests, one of which has a dart booby trap.

In that same house is a NPC that is apparently available once. He buys your junk for souls and sells poisons. I snipped him by mistake and got a badass Axe but requires high dex and like 50str.

Another NPC sorcerer merchant is sitting by the boat and requires 10 int just to speak to you.

Finally, look for a chest after defeating boss but before touching the blue thingy to advance. You won't be able to get on the boat after. lots of ppl are missing the chest reward.

I've breezed through the game up to Earthen Peak and Iron Keep. Died so many times there :(. It's terrible when I get 2-3 hit KO from most enemies now. I've watched people who summoned me blast through it, but they're probably 30+ levels higher than me.

    Edit: Just passed Iron Keep.
