So.... he was texting in the movie ... then shoots someone for texting in the movie.

I'm sure his supporters would do the same.

It makes for a nice headline, but I'm not sure that's accurate.

the two parties are heroes.... because of them people will realize the importance of respecting people in a movie theater.

The headline isn't Reeves texted during the movie... In that very statement you quoted, it states the text involved Reeves informing his son that he was already seated in the theater....

So, it is accurate, Reeves had used his phone to text INSIDE the theater when already seated 16 minutes before the film started...

You're missing the point of the article. The article is trying to paint Reeves as a hypocrite. Read the very first sentence:

Moments. Is that a fair description of events? "Moments before the incident"? Since when can 16 minutes be considered "moments"? The article is intentionally misleading.

Keep in mind the shooting didn't happen during the movie but during previews.

Who cares if it's 16 minutes or moments, it was both during the previews or before the previews started, and even if someone had texted during the actual movie, it's obviously not a reason to get so confrontational that it needs to escalate to a shooting. Especially if one is complaining about something one has done oneself just moments or 16 minutes before.

Let's say you get to work at 7:50 AM, and your workday begins at 8:00 AM. When you arrive, you see your boss watching netflix on his computer. And since you've been wanting to finish the latest episode of your favorite show, you also start watching netflix on your computer.

At 8:05 AM, your boss stops by your office, sees you watching netflix, and reprimands you for it. Would you consider him to be a hypocrite?

This has nothing whatsoever to do with what happened here, and either way, wouldn't change anything about the fact that the violence was clearly extremely excessive.

I never said anything to the contrary. I simply pointed out an intentionally misleading statement in the article.

So after using his own phone to text during the previews, the old man harasses the other guy for the same behavior during the previews. Then after the other guy "finally" puts his phone away -- after bringing in a manager, the old man continues to harass the other guy until the other guy snaps and goes off on him -- tossing popcorn and possibly a cell phone, at which point the old man was afraid for his safety and used his gun?

OK... that old man is a scumbag and deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Dumb analogy since there was no relationship between these two strangers let alone hierarchy.

Sorry, but it's a perfect analogy that demonstrates how an acceptable action can be unacceptable 15 minutes later, even if performed at the same location.
