What did you expect? He plays less than 15 minutes and more often in garbage time. There is no motivation to play when the game is done already.
He does not get consistent minutes. Asik was wise to ask for a trade when he knows that he would not get consistent minutes. When a young player who would otherwise be a starter is playing poorly managed bench minutes, it hurts his game. If you want develop a player, give him consistent minutes. By consistent minutes, I do not mean the total minutes, but the way it is distributed. When all you get is to play 1 minute at the end of quarter and 4 minutes in another quarter and 2 and 4, your game will suck eventually. It is so clear that Asik and Lin are going to be moved. What they are contributing now is already amazing given that they get zero help from the coach.
Not going to happen until we have another coach. Mchale is known to ride his favorite players for super-man minutes.
It's not on McHale. It's on Morey. He knew from the moment the team started going after Dwight that Asik's days here were numbered. Even more so once they actually signed Dwight and Asik and his agent immediately demanded a trade. Instead of moving him, Morey arrogantly sat back and waited for some grand deal to be offered by another team(which never materialized in no small part because Morey refuses to take back any contract that goes past 2015) while assuming that Asik would be cool with watching his minutes cut by more than half as a backup.
So true, making this deadline and asking for two first round picks No wonder GM's called him delusional.
In defense of Morey, maybe there was never a good deal to be made for Asik. Maybe that final year of his contract scared off too many teams. But if there was ever a time to move the guy, it was last offseason when he was coming off a career year(and an impressive Game 5 performance against OKC). Instead it sounds like Morey didn't decide to make trading Asik a priority until it became clear the Twin Towers lineup was no longer a realistic option to get him minutes and Asik was unhappy with a backup role. By then it was too late(at least based on Morey's ridiculous demands).
Yeah maybe, but Washington was willing to give up a first rounder and Okafor for Asik but Rockets had no Interest so they got Gortat instead. I would have done that deal
I feel bad for Asik who played great last year Omer Asik highlights in win at Bulls - 20 pts, 18 reb, 3 blk, 1 ast, 9-13 from the field http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBx7rnE5-rA
His numbers this year match up very closely to his numbers when he was playing backup in Chicago. Nothing has happened to Omer except he is now playing with the second unit.
I was pretty impressed to see Asik continued to come up from post to set screen for Canaan. This will help getting Canaan ready when he's needed. That's the spirit we want even when losing.
Idk, he still seems the same to me. Hit or miss on if he catches it, hit or miss on if he'll convert at a rim, but very good rebounding and a great positional defender. I'd still like to see more time with the Twin Towers, like 5-10mpg. And some teams, 15mpg. Asik should rest Dwight about 12-14mpg, and play with him another 10 or so. Offensively, our creativity needs to step up. If Dwight was actually a dominant offensive player, it'd be fine. But as is, he's turnover prone with enough space, with less space, it's worse.
