Next year's QB class is "always" better!

E.J. Manuel, Geno Smith, Ryan Nassib?! Nah forget them, next year's class is better!

    Fast forward...

Bridgewater, Manziel, Bortles, Carr, Garappolo?! Nah, next year's class is better!

No guarantee you'll be in position to grab Mariota or Winston or whoever the top prospect(s) is/are and no guarantee said top prospect(s) come out. Doesn't necessarily mean to reach on one of this year's QBs if you don't feel they're worthy but...

I can see Schaub mentoring young Teddy Bridgewater right now

"All right Teddy, you have two options when a defender is within 5 yards of you, curl up into the fetal position or just throw it out of bounds. Now, if a defender gets within 3 yards of you you won't have time to do either of those things, in that case you have to lob the ball up anywhere and just pray that the defender mishandles the interception.

The bottom line is that o-line better give you at least 5 seconds of a perfect pocket every time or else it's on them. Keep that in mind and you can sucker McNair into giving you 15 million guaranteed for not performing."

For those of you that want to draft Jadeveon Clowney, you must also want Schaub as the starting QB. There probably wont be a better option at QB out there if they don't take a QB at #1 so Schaub is who they would roll with.

I'll be happy. It means O'Brien either sees something in Schaub or he realizes that the 3-headed monster at qb in this draft isn't all that great and the Texans can get better value in the 2nd or 3rd at that position.

Don't forget about the Astros. Maybe they will have finally called up Springer!

While this thread could have been put in the other Schaub thread... thinking back to last season, where the Texans QBs (both Schaub and Keenum) played as bad as they did. In a season that started with "Is Schaub top ten"? and ended with "is Kubiak crazy to bring Schaub back as a starter?"

And now, that is exactly what may happen?

    Wow... smh.

Wait, that's true though. This year's class is better than that one. And next years I'm not so sure about, I'm not sold on Winston who's only played a year and I never was high on Mariota. But Winston would probably go #1 right now in this draft.

Winston is almost a Luckesque prospect.

They way I see things, Aaron Rodgers might have been the second or third QB taken in this draft class by the way he looked in college. It is just so hard to tell who is going to be a great QB. I think the best way is to judge their desire/mental fortitude. Scouts go a bit too much off of physical ability for my liking.

I get the love for Winston. But I don't think Mariota would've gone #1 this year (and I like Mariota). Things change after the season, but most had Bridewater ahead of Mariota before he decided to return to Oregon. Some had Manziel ahead of him too but I don't remember how common that was. Hundley was typically seen as a mid-late 1st/2nd rounder in this draft. Winston is the only guy who would clearly go #1 in this draft. So unless we plan on finishing dead last again, we're probably better off using our #1 on a QB this year.

There's no reason to believe that keeping Schaub means we're not drafting a QB in the first. Nor would have bringing in Cassel or McCown. These are not long term solutions. We were always going to bring in, or "keep" in Schaub's case, a veteran presence. I don't think it affects our draft strategy regarding QBs in the least.

    Things you will never hear.....

"Man, I wish I were a Texans fan, that has to be exciting!"

Expect more crap piled on top of existing crap..... the good news is we have a great visionary in Smith running the organization.

They should make it an open competition between Case and Schaub and whoever we draft in the later rounds then.

I don't think I've ever been excited about a roster move (addition or even subtraction) throughout the Texans' existence as I've been with a Rockets or Astros move. The Rockets have always tried to make moves for the better and the Astros went all in during that small window when they had Pettitte and Clemens.

Hell, even last year's signing of Reed came with some excitement but also trepidation because they just locked in an old safety who clearly hurt himself during the Super Bowl.

As some have said already, this all starts with the ownership.

Agreed. For the time being. Bridgewater was "Luckesque" last year around this time.

Winston is an overrated prospect. Elongated delivery, not great arm strength. Over hyped.

    Exactly.

Jake Locker was "Luckesque" had he come out a year early.

Not only that, what if the teams that are in a position to take them desperately need QB's and refuse to trade out?
