I honestly have no clue who the Texans will take first overall. Clowney seems like a for sure, but they still haven't let Schaub go, so I then question if Bridgewater is the pick.

I'm REALLY not looking forward to another year of Schaub. I wish they had been able to close the deal on one of those FA QB's.

Wondering if the take a flyer on Josh freeman??? Im seriously thinking the Texans tried hard to get McCowen...but the Bucs just had a bit more cash...Now the Texans are really stuck with Matt...

I dunno, Freeman couldn't beat out Cassel in Minnesota, he's a pretty terrible QB. I honestly think we're stuck with Schaub....for now. Hopefully whoever we pick at QB in the 2nd develops quickly and takes over the job.

Lets face it, Schaub is arguably the best QB "available" on the market.

Personally, I'd rather take a shot at one of the rookies, but Schaub is a more sure option at this point.

I really think the reason he hasn't been cut yet is that the Texans don't want to show their hand with the #1 pick. Maybe they are selling hard on drafting Clowney so that another team bites and we get to trade back a few spots.

If Schauber wants to start so bad, he'll take a re-worked contract to get traded to the Raiders or Browns.

Otherwise, it makes no sense to cut him right now. The 4.5 million you save by dumping him wouldn't buy Michael Vick, and all the other QBs available are obvious downgrades.

If (when) we draft a QB, and we feel comfortable with what we have, cut him and use that 4.5 million to resign some key players. Otherwise, hold onto him as a tutor/insurance and let him go next year.

If you'd asked me 3 months ago, I'd have told you there was no way in hell Schaub would be our starting QB next year, now it's all but a certainty. Damn.

Look at the deal McCown just got, and tell me it doesn't make sense to keep Schaub until after the draft. Everybody clamoring to cut him now make zero sense. Why would you FORCE yourself into an even more dire situation by cutting the only guy on the roster that has a legitimate chance at winning some games next year? I want him gone just as badly as the next guy, but only if it means we'll be replacing him with someone who gives us real direction. Not a stop gap.

Also, Rick Smith has not done a good job at managing the cap situation, but at the same time, I don't think anybody was anticipating the thundering crash of the offensive line and linebacking corps over the last season and a half. It's really handcuffed him by creating holes in what were otherwise strong areas of the team.

It's a certainty we are going to keep him until after the draft. Beyond that, no guarantees.

I don't know about that. I highly doubt they throw a rookie QB out there given the complexity of BOB's system. He asks too much from QB's which is why the Texans were trying to hard to pick up a vet. I think it's all but a given as of right now that the Texans go with Schaub as the starter next year unless a Mallett trade happens (which I'm not really a fan of)

Did you see McNair cut Kubiak's balls off mid-season for starting Schaub over total no-namer Keenum?

You think he's gonna let O'Brien send Baldy McGee back out there on opening day when we've got a brand new toy to play with?

You send Schaub out there, you waste a year of everyone's time. Throw the kid in the fire. Let him learn. Year 1 is a mulligan, might as well get some experience out of it.

I doubt O'Brien wants the development of is chosen QB delayed anymore than it has to be.

For the Texans, they should view Schaub as an insurance policy and nothing more. If he wants out, let his agent broker a new contract and trade.

You can ruin a prospect that way VERY easily. You throw a kid out there who isn't ready and you bias the city against him forever (and possibly his teammates) and you destroy his confidence. Throwing a rookie QB, especially one from this class with no top tier talent, to the wolves will just get him eaten.

I do agree that throwing Schaub out there will be a waste of our time, which is why I hate that the Texans couldn't manage to land a vet FA.

This is the exception, and not the rule. This isn't an expansion team. The kid won't get David Carr'd out of existence.

ILB has been a glaring problem and should have been addressed long before now, especially given Cush's injury history.

O-line was a glaring need the moment we lost our starting guard and RT. Smith seemed to think he could make due with a combo of mid-round rookies and Derick Newton. Just stupid. People wonder why schaub threw so many ints and why our running game declined? Answer= Rick smith.

For every one thing he's done well he's done two stupid things. I won't even mention the Ed Reed debacle or extending Schuab with that contract.

...or blowing an early 1st on Okoye or the countless 2nd 3rd round picks he's blown.

There isn't a "rule" one way or the other, because all systems are different and QB prospects come in all different types, but throwing a "meh" prospect into a very complex system with a ton of advanced responsibilities as a rookie is a great way to ruin them. There's a reason the Texans were trying to get in on pretty much every vet QB FA out there.

How do you know we view the qb prospects as "meh?" Who from the team has said that? Quit parading that opinion around as fact. You know well enough that a lot of the information around this time of year can be seen as smoke screens. For all we know, we've been putting information out there that we've wanted to meet with these guys, when we are just trying to further the charade that we are going to pick Clowney at number one (a charade being used to trade back and pick up extra picks). For all we know, it could have been determined by BOB that he wants to work with Schaub while grooming a first round pick...

Not saying that's how I feel, just using that as an example to show that everything around here is pure speculation, and there are a small handful of posters (2 or 3) that are traipsing around here like they're the only ones that know anything, and what they believe is fact.

Blows my mind they drafted him in the first round, a 28 year old rookie QB! Yeah that sounded promising...
