fallenphoenix, it's not nice to call other people names. Not nice at all. I don't **** on it... just not impressed like everyone else... there's a huge difference.

Meh. There is nothing new about photorealism or photorealist portraiture. I don't see how he meets his own explanation by saying these are psychological portraits of the sitter from that day because they are fairly mono emotional and often the paint is arbitrary decoration as opposed to having any real power.

I am sure he can sell his work decently but I don't see anything of depth here. Just technique (which is also a little funny because he says his technique is not important in his art).

 

What's the point? That's why it's not really art, it's more of a display of skill.

I agree with SwoLy, it's ok, but nothing to brag about. Besides face painting is no longer in vogue, it's actually very passe....

I definitely don't want to get into what defines "art" with the circle jerk going on, it would not be productive since the definition varies greatly from person to person.

I remember seeing Norman Rockwell paintings when I was a kid and not believing someone could paint so realistically. It's just interesting. I don't know the artist and haven't viewed his work in person so I don't have strong opinions of him either way.

 

That's the point. You found it interesting. The Rockwell's told a story and at least asked a question. These paintings are essentially photocopies of...photos. What's the difference between the two?

 

^True but you seem to dismiss it as if there is nothing to it and anyone can do that.

 

Rockwell didn't enlarge a digital photo and didn't 'sketch it' before painting it. At least we didn't see that on his process. We see it with this one now. I'll just order a big poster, thanks.

 

You must not have read what I wrote about it in my first post.

I called it impeccable. His skill is amazing. I never said anything to dismiss his skill. There is just nothing after that.

 

i won't say anyone can do it but i think a lot more can if they put the hours of practice necessary to learn the skill. when people say someone has talent what they unintentionally dismiss is the person's years of hard work and study to acquire that skill.
