I'm just imagining, of all the rescue efforst put in place now, that somebody finds the plane by using the 'Find my iPhone' app...

The latest line of thinking is that the passports were being used in an illegal immigration attempt. Maybe this will serve as a wake up call in this country that you can't openly assist this type of activity without creating massive holes in your nation's security. If these guys had made it to America, we'd have people around here clamoring to give them free healthcare, eduction (Dreamers), the right to vote... Selective enforcement of laws leads to stuff like this.

Sure its possible. Now you only have to account why the pilot didnt radio in.

Which government? Or do they put all their differences aside and join hands for the "really big" conspiracies? :)

Well, to be fair, he was cudgeled about the ears after his false flag type email early on, so he had to resort to his other superpower.

Wouldn't a plane travel with significant cabin pressure and speed break apart with even smallest of bombs? A cat sized whole would turn into the plane breaking apart?

That's my Hollywood action movie expertise talking.

I want to say this got busted on Mythbusters. The hole that they created might have been smaller though.

It's 2014 and we can't even find a plane crash 5 days after the fact. If there were any survivors they'd be dead by now. Wow.

Not only would it have had to fly another hour or so to make it that far, it would have had to turn almost completely around. Why would the plane turn around for an hour (or at all) without radioing in?

Very interesting. So it didn't radio in, and took a lower altitude. If there were mechanical issues, or cabin pressure issues, the pilot could have tried to descend to 10,000 ft. I still don't understand why they wouldn't radio in. That flight that was 30 min. ahead said they heard mumbling and static, but not a distress signal.

There is no other explanation for purposeful deactivation of the transponder besides hijacking right? Why else would they ever turn it off?

I'd like to know why so many people still have cell service, and appear to be on instant messenger apps. Also, why is one of the supposed Iranian passengers tweeting and facebooking asking people to pray for him...

You also said a few pages ago it was "very rare" to have stolen passports on a plane.... and you couldn't have been more wrong about that, especally in Asia where it probably happens on just about every flight.

Guys, all of the major news outlets are reporting that this WAS NOT a terrorist attack. We can move on from that now.

One of the two passengers that boarded the missing Malaysia Airlines plane with a stolen passport is believed to be a 19-year-old Iranian.

Speaking at a news conference, Inspector General of Police Khalid Abu Bakar said the man was not believed to have terrorist links.

I believe it's pretty rare in the US/UK/Australia/few other places that regularly cross check Interpol's database, but from what I've read that isn't the standard practice in most countries.

Also, based on some comments in this thread and some articles I've read, Thailand has a bustling industry for forged documents. Stolen passports go for like $900. It is a hub for immigration departures for Western Europe, where these two were headed after this flight.

I heard that the Air France flight that crashed in 2009 had like 10 stolen passports used.
