BTW - I think in episode 4 when they're interviewing Charlie Lange about Reggie Ledoux He said "there’s, like, all these old stones out in the woods, where people go to, like, worship. Lot's of good killing down there."

Then last night they showed Carcosa and the rock building built into the forest. It's an actual real place.

    Fort Macomb.

didnt love the ending but it was still good.

The whole kingdom/carcosa was just excellent. Had no idea Errol was that tall (mainly because he was sitting in his appearances). Overall great show with a fitting ending.

In the final episode didn't they show two guys that looked like Errol? One who had scars on his face and one who didn't?

I got the same feeling during that scene that I had watching Dark Knight Rises, when Batman gets trapped in a cage with Bane. Only amplified.

Batman in Dark Knight Rises again... Cohle went there to get justice, but he also went there to die. He welcomed death. Expected it.
It was a hallucination again. The whole device, Cohle's visions... did so much for the show.

It allowed them to feign Cohle having almost superhuman like senses. Seeing things that helped with the case. Smelling aluminum and ash. Knowing when people were lying. Knowing they were at the right palce... adds to his mystique.

It also allowed them to add in some awesome visuals.

It (along with other recurring commentary by various criminals on Cohle) gave more weight to the whole cult-like mentality the criminals had. Showed you how crazy they probably all were. Showed you Cohle was there, with them, in that world, in Carcosa - but he's on the good side. Light vs darkness.

It also helped setup that attack scene perfectly, completely unexpected, the audience forgets Cohle is in any danger, focuses on the visuals. Like Cohle is. And Cohle is someone who under normal circumstances probably could not be snuck up on.

Cohle's drug induced visions... huge part of what makes the show what it is.

    Couple questions:

Who is Marie Fontanel and how did they get a lead about her in the first place?

In the last two episodes, cohle had this drawing of the killer (greenish I think) posted up on the wall. How did he get this drawing of the killer?

That was the little girl who disappeared a few years before 1995 and who Cohle thought was a potential victim of the killer(s). Her mom's house was the one where they found the stick statues in the playhouse out back.

They got that drawing as it was what the sketch artist put together from the testimony of another child who was chased through the woods by that person.

Weird... I was trying to figure out what season 2 was going to be and came across this:

    http://www.thewrap.com/true-detective-know-season-2/

Takes place in Southern California, ok, but it "deals with the secret occult history of the US transportation system"? That almost sounds like a joke.

That's been the rumor for about two weeks.

From one of his interviews, but who knows. Allegedly it might be about bikes.

Edit- Sorry. What I quoted was in your link and I didn't read before opening it.

    I love that. Excellent stuff.

The finale couldn't have been more perfect, IMO.

Absolutely enjoyed this first season. It was like an 8 hour movie and I wasn't bored at any point. Very satisfying finale.

I think the U.S transportation history thing could be about the cheap Asian immigrant workers we had when building the rail system. I can remember fully if the workers were predominantly Japanese or Chinese, but they suffered alot due to low wages and racism... i could see it being something dealing with that.
