A stupid waste of money to send the carrier as if we would have a war with Russia or this will somehow intimidate them. It is sad that Obama has to do crap like this to show he is tall in the saddle when the folks who like this stuff will never prefer him over the average neo-con/Republican no matter how much money he spends on war and the military.

Oh well at least say a thousand or so personnel of the GWB are getting paid.

It's not what Ukraine produces, it's the fact that most of European gas pipelines go through Ukraine.

The only problem with the whole "carrier" business is that no such move has been made. We have a frigate getting repairs in a Turkish Black Sea port, and this one Aegis destroyer entering the Black Sea now. No carrier battle group in the area, unless you include that deployed in the Med, which we typically have deployed there anyway.

Other moves we have made are more concerned with calming the jitters of allies close to Putin's Russia. A dozen F-16's have been sent to Poland to beef up what we currently have there, and we're increased the number of F-15's in Lithuania from 4 to 10. No big movements of American forces. Not yet. Those two countries are members of Nato, and at least to me, the moves are perfectly understandable.

It is not that bad as Europeans love to walk and use public transport. Compared to the US

lol we are talking about NATURAL GAS, not gasoline

bro we don't use natural gas for our cars in the US (although there is a tiny, tiny fraction that do)

Natural Gas is like USDA Organic, where as crude is everything else.

That is why people like the natural gas, it is a more healthy alternative, but it just hasn't found its way into everyday use.

Currently we use the natural gas to fracture rock to access crude. Then in refineries, leftover NGL (natural gas) is mixed with leftover crude to make diesel.

Natural gas = a gas (an example of another gas is a fart) used for applications such as cooking and heating.

Gasoline = a refined liquid (an example of another liquid is pee pee) that starts as crude oil and is refined in refineries. You put this into your car.

In tomorrow's lesson, I will differentiate between motor oil and peanut oil.

There's practically 0% chance of seeing a US carrier in the Black Sea. Because of the The Montreux Convention, Turkey will not allow any non-Black Sea country naval ship over 15,000 tons to transit the Bosporus strait.
Even in times of war and Turkey waives this restriction, I doubt any US carrier will ever venture into the Black Sea. In the Black Sea it is practically a sitting duck. It's just too small and even the long range land based anti ship missiles from Crimea can reach most part of the sea.

So this is turning into stale news in the U.S. pretty quick. I guess it'll heat up again on 16-Mar when they vote on the Crimean Referendum.

Stale news means everyone wants diplomatic solutions, not military ones.
It could take years though I assume it will end with an independent Crimea.

It is fun to scheme war scenarios sort of like the game of Risk. We are not going to have that level of open warfare with Russia.

Even Mad Dog McCain would not be that crazy for that much war.

However, he and the usual supsects will not hesitate to repeat the meme that the Kenyan Socialist and all Dems are soft on war. It has great use electorally as long as the public falls for it. It also helps the military industrial stocks and bonds.

Well actually, he's partially correct. Natural Gas Condensate is a byproduct of NG refining. It's often used as a feedstock in heavy crude oil refining and as a diluent for unrefined crude traveling in pipelines. It's also used to help raise the octane of gasoline.

Not exactly sure that downbytheriver knew that though, especialy since he said that NG is used by refineries to produce crude. However, I am sure that I should've majored in Chemical Engineering.
