Well I am glad they "dumbed down" the leveling system. Spam leveling that I do not care about to gain attributes and keep up with the enemies is just not fun for me.

Yeah, that system was so broken I actually forgot about it. I must've blocked it out due to trauma or something.

Here's a system where the only way to get good stats is to use everything except the skills your character is supposedly good at. Which led to such absurd situations as standing in one place and jumping repeatedly for 15 minutes.

"Hey, why are you just jumping in place?"

    "I'm levelling, n00b."

I did enjoy Skyrim quite a bit, though I played a modded version. Think it fixed many of the "dumbed down" issues, though some still remained. Oddly enough, I didn't finish it (or come close too), though I can't point to anything THAT bad about the game. I think I liked it more than my time with Oblivion. Maybe I'm just burned out on this type of game too.

This is boring guys. Quit talking about good games that we can all play. They don't affect the console wars.

    LET'S GET BACK TO TITANFALL!

    (I'm just joking of course)

Gabe from Penny Arcade goes over some of the differences between the PS4 and Xbox One Twitch streaming apps.

    http://www.penny-arcade.com/news/post/2014/03/07/xbox-one-and-twitch

    Highlights:
    • You can archive streams on Xbox One, but not PS4.
    • The interface on Xbox One is far superior, thanks to app-snapping.
    • You can change the PIP location on Xbox One which is important due to various game UI layouts
    • Higher stream quality (as confirmed earlier in the week from dissecting Major Nelson's stream).
    • Backing out to dashboard on Xbox One pauses the stream notifying users. On PS4 it simply ends the stream.
    • Achievements and friend requests don't render to the stream on Xbox One, on PS4 they black it out.

I personally think this is going to be a continuing trend. The development tools for Xbox One are just far superior, and as developers get more time with it, they'll do far cooler things.

Also, I think all of the little "perks" to the Twitch app on Xbox One are a testament to the decision Microsoft made early on with using a multi-pain composting scaler which allows notifications and app snapping to take place outside of the game area. The "three OS" system in motion.

Also, as an ASIDE, Major Nelson has specifically requested that they extend the Xbox One app to Smart Glass... mainly for using as a second-screen for chat.

Was the Twitch app not developed internally by MS? I assumed so (also the same for the PS4 app). In that case, I'm not sure it is clear whether one is better than the other. That could be the case, or it could just be that MS decided to place a higher priority on delivering an awesome (and better in every way) implementation of that functionality. I wouldn't necessarily be surprised if the tools were better (especially with something not related to game development), but I'm not sure this shows that exactly.

As I said earlier though, kudos to MS for putting together such a good implementation. I prefer Sony to focus on gaming (as they have), but I think this should push them to improve their own implementation of the service, providing a better experience for everyone. I think with each company focusing on different things, it is actually helping to push the other company to do better in its "weak" areas.

And we all benefit from that. :)

Haha, this is the type of stuff that made me decide I was done with Microsoft.

    My favorite part:

Yeah, I'm not particularly fond of that stuff...but I just come to expect it now.

With these tools...for tools, I think PS4 games will begin to look significantly better. If you think the games look good now, you ain't seen nothing yet!

Xbox One's Top Marketer Brags to Advertisers About Kinect's Abilities

Yeah, except they've talked up the Kinect's ability to do just such targeting. And their 10/7/13 statement about commitment to privacy and not using Kinect data would be more convincing if the first article I linked to hadn't just come out, where they're again talking about targeted ads.

You don't have to use kinect for targeted ads. There are other ways just as easy. Go put on your tinfoil hat....lol.

Matter of fact, kinect really doesn't add anything for ads, expect that person is in in front of the TV. But it can't tell you what that person is interested in, views, etc.......

Hell, Google is much more intrusive. The try to force you to login to goggle when you search or use youtube. Search for anything of google and related products will show up on most pages you visit such as Clutchfans.

Did you not even actually read anything from the link I posted?

Of course, I don't believe for a second this thing about "tiered pricing" for movie rentals, MS would get way too much bad press for that. But the Kinect can tell what you're looking at on screen, your heart rate, etc. Microsoft talked up its ability to do just that. You think advertisers aren't interested in that data? The article quotes ad agency representatives who seem very interested.

And yeah, I know there are other ways of targeting ads. Duh. But having a machine constantly looking at you and gauging your body's reaction to ads is considerably more creepy than having ads targeted from simple demographic data. Doesn't mean they will do this, but I don't necessarily trust them not to. When they start talking about targeted ads, it's hard not to consider the possibility. I mean, the $64,000 question is: why the hell would MS talk up Kinect's ability to advertisers to collect this sort of data in the first place if they had no plans to ever sell/use it? The answer is that they wouldn't.

And people would have "opt in" to allow MS to do that. Say "no" and all that goes away.

Feel free to stop with the circle jerk at any time. EVERY SINGLE online service targets users for ads. That is the freaking point. Who cares if it is a political candidate over Coca-Cola?

In fact, I like that they are reaching out to candidates - because if nothing else maybe it will get some younger adults to actually give a damn about what is happening in their local politics.

An ad is an ad. Most people are going to ignore them, at least most power users.

Microsoft openly states how they target ads. Every other ad service does it in similar fashion. Ad targeting has been going on for far longer than the internet has been around.

Microsoft shows the power of the Kinect to advertisers because advertisers can release content that utilizes Kinect. You realize that the Kinect can be used by stand alone apps, or it can can help you browse to websites or search via Bing, etc? Ads on said websites and or Bing could integrate with Kinect for use within the ad.

Microsoft has also had advertisers release entire games for free in the past such as the Burger King games on the early days of Xbox 360. I think 5 Gum and Sprite or something had free games too if I recall correctly.

Don't like the Kinect watching you? Unplug the damn thing. The fact that people think Microsoft cares what the hell they do in their living rooms when not using their Xbox Ones is laughable.

No online service with that kind of infrastructure is going to do that. Facebook and Google collect far more data than any other services, yet people don't complain. Content delivery systems are going to analyze data, so they can better deliver content. Netflix does the same thing, and that is how they know what works and what doesn't.

Everything you do online is tracked and traced by countless entities, mostly for profit... don't like it? Unplugging is your only option. Just because you use Ad Block Plus in Chrome doesn't mean Google isn't watching your every move, and websites you connect to aren't.

Um, yeah, I never said I was worried about it watching me when I wasn't using it. Where are you getting this? On the other hand, Microsoft specifically said that it could be used to collect data about how I'm reacting to what's on the screen when it is on. How is this "paranoid"? It's fact. MS itself says so. Obviously there has been ad targeting forever. But to my knowledge ad targeting has never been done before by tracking your eye movements and heart rate. I'm entitled to be creeped out by that possibility.

Seriously, posting tinfoil hats would make a lot more sense if Microsoft itself hadn't been talking up this very capability.
