O'Brien doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would necessarily give a ****. There really aren't many options. I doubt we seriously go after Vick. He'll get more money than any other FA QB and we just can't afford it, never mind that he's probably not a good fit for our new offense. Josh McCown might be a cheap option. But after that, who could even start ahead of a rookie? Rex Grossman? Dan Orlovsky? Kellen Clemens? Derek Anderson? Jimmy Clausen? Matt Flynn? People joke about Cassel but the QB free agent crop is slim pickings and he was among the cream of it.
Know after what happened last year etc.. Schaub is a better QB than Cassel.. easy. Might as well go for a high ceiling lowwww floor in Vick and maybe? they will be better. (of course still draft a QB, they'll be in by game 4).
Schaub is the best of the vets that are going to be available to us so it makes sense to keep him. I just hope it was as much Kubiaks fault for the pick 6's as it was Schaubs. Perhaps that is why Kubiak kept blaming himself and wanted to keep him in - yeah ultimately Schaub is the one with the ball in his hand but would explain a few details at least. Hopefully BOB's play calling is good enough to avoid those in future and Matt has had some time to digest it all. I am prepared to give him a shot as long as he is prepared to help bring along a rook.
Depends on if he's willing to restructure. I don't think he's here just because of how toxic his relationship has become with the fans though.
Josh McCown Why isn't anybody hot on this guy? He was the best choice before anybody signed and he's still the best choice.
This shows how little anyone knows of what B'OB wants to do... Mallett, Cousins, Osweiler, Cassel... Just throwing **** against the wall to see what sticks. The media is out of control!!
I tend to agree that the bad perception is more likely to have Schaub cut than his contract. Yes his contract is big but whatever money you save will have to be spent on a starting caliber player and based on what's out there I don't think they are any better than him. So essentially, you have the same amount of money tied to the position.
But it still costs you money to cut him and you still have to give a contract to a different vet, so you might end up spending more than you would if you just kept Schaub. I'm confident signing Vick and combining his contract with Schaub's dead money would be more expensive. We would've pretty much broken even if we'd cut Schaub and signed Cassel. You could probably save money by signing a worse QB to can't demand even a decent contract, but then you have a worse QB than Schaub.
