People have already done some amazing things with it. I've played a tetris clone for hours as an example... and then there are the hilarious things that are great too. I like that the worlds and games people build are rated and sortable, so you can see the best and worst that they have to offer.

I had ordered the Turtle Beach Earforce XO Four's thru Turtle Beach. They weren't supposed to even ship before 3/7. But today I found them on sale at Wal-Mart for the same price ($99) and jumped on them and canceled my online order. They DO come with the needed adapter for the unit. There is a software upgrade needed when you first get them but it only takes a few minutes.

Nice, let us know what you think about them. I loved my TurtleBeach headset for the 360.

The controller update is simple, just plug it in with the USB cable, it takes just a few minutes as you say.

Don't think it will really change much for the XBO (so wouldn't really be too excited about it), but keeping the APIs/platform in sync with the PC version of DirectX should make it easier for developers wishing to port their games. So that's good. :)

Actually, I read somewhere that it would make a significant difference. So, i guess we will have to see.

Where did you read that? How would it improve things for the platform?

I'd imagine that whatever makes its way into DirectX, MS would have put them into the XBO already. In fact, I imagine some of the improvements in DX12 will be based on optimizations they already made for XBO. The biggest benefit to supporting the APIs would be to ease porting for games between PC and XBO. The XBO APIs are probably already using optimized implementations to take full advantage of its hardware, and DX12 will probably do the same for PC hardware. A developer will be able to maximize both machines by using the same code (or roughly the same code...at least the same APIs).

I think MS would have been touting this much sooner if it was really that significant. I think further improvements to their tools (allowing for more efficient use of the architecture) will be more significant than this. Though that will not receive any attention via news articles.

Microsoft does this for special teams all the time. The Xbox One team got white Xbox Ones at launch which said "I made this" as a recent example.

The rumor is the Xbox One development was running 6 months behind schedule last summer. That's why many things at launch seemed to be unfinished. It makes sense now that all these updates are coming rapid fire as MS catches up to where they wanted to be at launch and beyond. There will be another update in April and pop up notifications (like when friends coming online) that have been missing are suppose to be added.

I don't really think it is a rumor, it has been pretty much confirmed. Xbox One development was behind in large part due to the shift direction after initial flack received about DRM and such. They also wanted to launch before the holiday season so Sony wouldn't get a huge head start.

Developers also said that they had limited time with the developer kits, and launch games were basically ports of PC builds.

I have no doubt that Xbox One will eventually crush PS4's functionality thanks to software updates and apps. That is Microsoft's bread and butter. Just see how far Xbox 360 came from launch until today - it isn't even the same console really.

I think Kinect 2.0 and Cortana coming to the system is going to change the game as well.

I think it is clear that Microsoft prefers their technologies be used, DirectX 12 being their technology. They've stated as much directly, months ago.

Guys, you need to ask yourself some questions.

    1. What is DirectX? What it is designed to do, and why has it been so successfull (well, besides being part of Windows...DirectX/OpenGL/etc.)?

    2. Does the Xbox platform use the EXACT version of DirectX that PCs use? Or does it use a custom version of DirectX? What would those customizations be, and why would MS put those in to a console (and not a PC)?

    3. How does console programming compare to PC programming? (hint: how much assembly programming is done with console games vs PC games?)

If you think about those questions, you might see why I'm not really expecting the XBO to really benefit much from supporting DX12, outside of making the porting process much easier.

I do think DX12 could be quite significant in general, especially if it can implement some of the things that Mantle offers. But these things are more beneficial to PCs (and other devices), not so much XBO.
