The stockton debate is also pointless. Stockton is great but Kobe is obviously the better overall player. I respect the HOFer but it's not even worth discussing. Now back to Kobe. He was not as athletic as MJ and it's obvious if you watch old footage. MJ moved through double like AI and jumped like your best dunker (off one foot too!). I'm glad he makes a three point fadaway on two guys. MJ wasn't that dumb and trusted his teammates like Lebron does. How many times did Kobe try that in the playoffs? Wait he did during game 7 of the finals against Boston and failed miserably. Artest and his therapist saved that game!
It's pretty clear that you never saw a prime Jordan. Are you aware that in game 2 of the 1991 nba finals, Jordan hit 13 consecutive field goals? Actually, Jordan could do that too. His range was almost to half-court. Honestly though, who cares? A heavily contested, double teamed 3 pointer....is that really a good shot?
my point was never that kobe is better than jordan. my point was that kobe is much more than a cheap imitation of jordan...and for the people who call kobe a cheap imitator of jordan are probably old school homers of jordan who still listen to 80s rock in their garage on sundays.
Exactly! Who takes that kind of shot? Oh yeah, the killer Kobe. AI was a killer too but he would also shoot his teams out of games. How many times could he pull that off in the playoffs? Yeah he could pull that off on some poorly coached teams during the regular season but that crap would not fly in the playoffs.
Dude your boy is done. Enjoy it for what it was but he will always be questioned unlike the rest. You should wonder why.
LOL....some people.... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/OTIwrkc0Wy0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
he's not "my boy" HAHA...im not even a kobe fan!!! jordan is the greatest..i'm just saying..some of yall act like kobe shouldn't even be in the conversation....but STOCKTON!?!?! STOCKTON > KOBE come on....hater.
He's not in the conversation....that's the point. He was a great player just like a lot of guys, but he's not top 10 material. MJ is and Lebron probably will be.
very nice. Dude he's a great offensive player but I don't get too excited over scorers like Kobe and Melo. I prefer complete players. Nonetheless he's one of the best to ever do it. He's no Jordan or Lebron though.
I never said anything about Stockton. I'm not a hater. I'm just not a Kobe stan. I love basketball. Ever heard of Kendall Gill? I'm joking of course but look him up. He was the first to try to emulate MJ.
if kobe is a scorer..then so is jordan. lebron is no kobe, he is no jordan, he quit on his 60 win team to join wade because he couldn't take the pressure of doing it himself.
Then your point fails. Kobe is indeed a cheap imitation of Jordan. And since he modeled his game after Jordan's, it's natural to compare them. And when you compare them, you'll see that Jordan had superior physical advantages (athleticism, explosiveness) and basketball IQ which led to better stats, achievements, and accolades. I'd like to hear why you think Kobe is more than a cheap imitation of Jordan. Also, when did you start following basketball, and how old were you? Be honest.
You can easily tell who started watching basketball post 2000 from this thread. And to the guy saying Durant has already passed up Lebron? wow
well maybe we are disagreeing on wordage..to me, a cheap imitation is marshon brooks of kobe bryant. that is a cheap imitation. kobe, is more than a cheap imitation, i don't know how you call a 5-time champion, MVP, with his level of greatness a cheap imitation of anything. Kobe is not Jordan, but he isn't a "cheap imitation" and ill be honest, i started to follow basketball at the age of 2 when my dad gifted me a hoop and a rockets shirt. its on VCR for proof
How these young kids and Kobe fans forget Shaq. Go back and look what Shaq did. He was so dominant that it took 2-3 guys to stop him. I blame Kobe and the Lakers for making so many forget about who started and completed the 3-peat. They act like Shaq was just an accessory. It's very frustrating.
Jordan is clearly better based on these stats (and my very limited memory of Jordan). That said, if I'm picking a team I pick Lebron over Jordan, only because he's a freak of nature and I highly value versatility (especially if I'm assembling a team, Lebron can play positions 1-4 which makes it easier to take a BPA in the later rounds).
In some ways he was just the accessory. Shaq was pretty much the most dominant player in the league at the time and Kobe was a good SG, you could have swapped him out with a few different guys and the Lakers would have won the championship. Shaq couldn't have been swapped out with anyone at the time. It's sort of like Wade when he was with Shaq in Miami or Drexler when he was with Olajuwon in Houston. Kobe was a great player, and I don't think anyone is trying to say otherwise, but he's not a top 10 all time player, that's a bit extreme.
I saw both Jordan and Stockton play, and I am not a Kobe fan in any shape or fashion. This is crazy talk. Stockton is nowhere near Kobe Bryant.
