Could the guy with the rifle, same guy from the bar, actually be Cohle's father? Didn't he say he was a vietnam vet? Maybe a sniper?

Nah, Cohle is from Texas - and that guy's kid went missing from Louisiana in the 80s, so it pretty much alludes to the fact that he is from the area... and his kid is possibly one of the victims. Thus, his reason to allow Cohle to set up shop, and investigate from his bar for 2+ years.

I think from the preview he is just there to support Rust and Marty, because he wants to get the sick bastards that could have had something to do with his kid missing.

From other forums I'm reading the people on the east coast stay out of the threads until around midnight CDT, so I don't think it will start at 6 there.

Also, this is the finale. You can't watch it a bar bruh! Too much to concentrate on.

Damn, you are right...it's 11 p.m. ET, so 8 p.m. in LA. Will have to be at LAX. I hope I find a place with HBO...or I will have to wait a day to watch it and cannot come back to this thread before Monday night!

Yes, unfortunately I am not a U.S. resident, so also not an HBO customer... :(.

Anyway, I can watch it the next day in Europe on Sky Go...

Just read the ending on reddit anyway ;).

I think the wink was sarcasm, as in those on Reddit are trying to predict the ending.

I don't buy it... "I forgot the exact..." Really? It isn't that difficult to remember what happens. To me, it seems like he waits for the preview, then guessed what happens.

Sounds good. Let's do it Sunday so we can watch true detective after, then fist fight in front of your family.

The first three episodes were top-notch. Beyond the excellent production, acting, and script, the way the show portrayed resignation and disillusionment of middle age within the context of an old serial murder case was brilliant. Never seen anything like it on TV before.

The second half of the season, though, was less interesting for me. As the show started to fill in a lot of the blanks, the elements that were chosen to move the plot -
the shootout in the projects, the attempted seduction of Cohle by Hart's wife, the entire conspiracy behind the murders, etc.
    - seemed too on the nose for me.

That said, the show is still exquisitely made, and I'll be tuning in for the finale.

Well, probably a lot of angry people who were looking at deep clues the whole time!
