The U.S. talent pool is lacking considerably. Two starters (Altidore, Dempsey) have been garbage and playing on teams battling relegation in the EPL. Think it's a smart time to take a risk on a talent like Green, even if it means giving up a WC roster spot.

I'm excited, but this isn't a done deal. I'll hold my breath until he is cap tied.

New US Soccer golf shir...err...home kits for 2014.

I was hoping they stick with or a variation on the 100-yr jersey they wore much of last year. This new one is...not good. As a friend said, "Nike has a creative department. A very good one. They apparently forgot about the US Soccer account."

Looks sorta like the 2008 home kit. I kinda liked the Waldo kits they had this year once they fixed the number issue since they brought up images of our flag and the Centennial logo they used, both of which were changed in this iteration.

Since they had such a good year, I would've thought long and hard of keeping the Centennial look

I wonder what the away kits will look like: red or blue?

He pretty much nailed it on about 25 of those. The other 7 it just looks like he decided to induce epilepsy in everybody. However, I will say that his USA jersey is about 30 times more exciting than the vanilla crap Nike bestowed upon us for this summer.

Everybody who plays for a South American team. The only one that wasn't busier than a traffic jam was Uruguay. But the jerseys for the African teams are tight.

Go get your soccer jersey, we're going to play golf...!

What's with the 13 stars? FAIL.

    "Yeah, well they're hideous."

The idea of a jersey is for the referee and teammates to easily recognize you, not to cause blindness or seizures like Fyreball mentions. The U.S.A. jersey needs to have some stars AND the true blue from the flag. If you're going to have the stripes, make them the 13.

    On most, good job.

In other news, I got my hand on one of these BRAZUCAs this past weekend. It was GLORIOUS. It is light and soft to the touch, but I didn't get to kick it fully.

The 13 stars are a representation, or an homage, if you will, of the original United States flag (aka the "Betsy Ross" flag). It's a tribute to the original 13 colonies.

Could be, but... ummm... the only time those were there was in 1777. I am wondering why not just put 13 stripes? Symbolism... opinions... everyone has their own... I guess.

Yea just giving love to the original colonies/states. Stripes wouldn't really fit anywhere on the collar and of all the things to dislike about that jersey that is one thing I have no problem with.

If FIFA truly had balls, they'd threaten to pull the 2018 Cup from Russia if they don't back off.

Thing is, I actually think that 2018 WC will be a dangerous one.
Look at all the fears going into Sochi. Russia was able to contain it since the Olympics take place in just one city. They could cordon off the city and handle any potential threats easily. With the World Cup you have multiple cities involved. I know the Russians will not like or want to be embarrassed in any way but I feel it might be tough for them to properly protect visitors in every Russian city hosting a match.

Maybe I'm being silly about it but I just don't see how they will be able to provide a safe WC with Chechnyan rebels making it their mission to embarrass Putin.

Regardless, i'm sure the WC will be in Russia in 2018 no matter what.
