I'm not sure why he hasn't gotten more roles as a big bad guy in films. He plays it so well.

One of my favorite character actors, makes any film better in my opinion.

Took them forever to make this sequel but I'm pretty excited for it, looks right in line with the original.

Not a lot of originality in stuff he does.

There are things he does in his picture where if you know the movie's budget and then see the overall finished product. It makes you wonder if he's straight up pocketing some of that cash.

My mom dated him for about a year in college. Curly Bill was almost my dad.

That's just subjective. He definitely works within genres that seem a bit repetitive, but that doesn't mean his work is unoriginal. Mariachi/Desperado trilogy, whether one finds them good or not, is pretty original in it's own right. And he's worked with pretty original material (Tarantino- Dusk Till Dawn, Grindhouse, Frank Miller- Sin City).

I'm not a huge fan of Rodriguez' films, I like some of them, I respect what he has contributed to the indie scene more, I think he gets a bad rep as a bad filmmaker sometimes. The cheesy explosions and effects are just part of the artistic choices he makes because it fits the 'B movie' action genre and style he's going for, particularly in Machete, Grindhouse, etc.

On a related note, I got in to see his TV pilot for "From Dusk till Dawn" at SXSW this weekend. It looked pretty promising. Not sure if his El Rey network is available yet or not.

Pretty disrespectful title for someone so important to Texas Filmmaking. There wouldn't be a working film commission without troublemaker and there would be a lot of out of work crews. Austin studios would likely never have been built. El Marachi and 10 minute film school meant the world to independent filmmaking.

Bash him in the post but keep the thread title clean. I get we all have different prospectives but as someone who works as a filmmaker in Texas I would lean towards being more respectful to Texas filmmakers.

If he's a "hack", why do you create a thread announcing one of his movies? I'd think you would not want to generate publicity for it. You know?

You mean you probably would live in Hollywood and would be at bbs.Lakersfan.net ? ;)
