Is Beverley's defense overrated? How does he compare to other defensive minded pg's? Not trolling, just not seeing what the hype is about.

If you don't see why fans get hyped up about Pat then I can only think of a few reasons why: 1) You're new to basketball. 2) You don't watch the games. 3) If you do watch, you don't understand what you're seeing (see #1) No offense, but Pat does a LOT of stuff that may get overlooked if you're watching with an untrained eye. Bullard is good at pointing some of that out on the broadcast.
He took a serious shot to the face. Played with a broken nose. Junkyard dog indeed. Maybe we can get him a red mask.
1. Been playing since grade school. 2. I do watch games 3. I do understand what I am seeing. I get he's good glue guy and a smart player but people here make him out to be some kind of folk hero. Elie, cassell, horry, chucky brown,mobley....they deserve the adoration..but Beverley?
What did Chucky do that Pat isn't doing or hasn't done? Hard worker, energy, doesn't back down from any challenge. Those are the things that endear a player to a fan base and a team. Didn't you ever play with one of those guys? I did. He averaged like .7 points a game but always got team awards and was by far the most liked dude on the team. If you can't see that Pat has what some of our other fan favorites had then I don't know what else to tell ya.
Woah woah, Chucky Brown? We gotta draw the line somewhere. Just bc Hakeem took 14 other guys to the championship doesn't mean they all have heart just automatically like that. What makes Beverley unique is that, at least so far this season, he's come up spades in all the biggest games, against the best team. Beverley sucked today, and that's gonna be part of his package too. His numbers will never belie his value. But to get where we need to go he's gotta be there.
The team plays considerably better offensively and defensively when Bev's on the floor. Opponents shoot worse from the field and see their turnover percentage spike when he's playing. Take his on-court production with his attitude and toughness, and it's easy to see why he's a fan favorite.
Big difference between fan favorite and hero like clutch fans is making him out to be. I barely see wow harden and Howard are killing it. All I see is bev is the greatest and Lin sucks.
That defensive play where Bev was guarding LeBron reminded me of when Rondo was guarding LeBron. Everyone knew that they couldn't guard them, except for them. Gotta love the no fear attitude
So this is about Lin? People like Beverley because he is tough and plays every game like it's his last. Beverley is an underdog. He isn't as talented as most PGs in this league but he makes up for it by playing harder and hustling more than anyone else. Beverley is the embodiment of the phrase "hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard".
this is not about Lin. I'm just wondering what reason for the hype is and if your answer is the best answer, I can live with that.
Beverley endears himself because he is the weed that grew through concrete to reach the sun. He will never be pretty, be he his darn tough! We love the guy, because: - He is freaking dirt cheap. We would not have been nearly as forgiving if he was getting paid big bucks. Honest truth here. - He has the most hustle EVERY GAME HE PLAYS on our team - He plays the most tenacious if not best perimeter defense on our team - He makes a ton of heads up, smart plays, especially during clutch time - He does whatever the hell the team needs him to do, in order to help the team win - He gets under opponents skins and that makes us think of old school Rockets enforcers - On a team full of soft/passive guys, Beverley sticks out intensely so he's easily recognized
