So with all that damning evidence sitting in the storage locker, is this show heading down the Arlington Road path of getting the hero framed for the hanus crime in the end? If the two leads die there will be no one to say otherwise.

Season 2 is happening. But "True Detective" was set to only be a miniseries. It took six months to shoot eight episodes, no way they could keep big named actors on for several years with that kind of schedule... especially one that just won the best acting Oscar.

Also, McConaughey may not be available for a Season 2, considering he character may die in the finale.

Due to the popularity, HBO has signed the show's creator to a deal - but, if he can't deliver something on par with season one the deal will have him focus on other new content instead. I don't doubt that they'll come up with something for season two, I'm just skeptical that it can reach the intensity and polish of the original.

The fact that HBO put "Season Finale" in all of the previews shows me that they would move forward with our without the show's creator. They have enough brilliant writers to make it work. It is also unknown if the show's director would be returning for every episode of season 2.

You've got those two black detectives seemingly snooping around for answers. It does not seem like they're involved in a coverup to me. They seem like good detectives. Maybe they'll take care of business in the end. A Departed type ending.

That would literally ruin the whole thing for me if it turns into a typical "shoot 'em up" ending. I'd pretty much be done with any further "True Detective" shows.

I'm thinking they stumble on to something and it all makes sense to them... and they are the third party witness to the massacre that is about to occur. Who comes out in a body bag is what is to be decided.

Those detectives have played too key a role to not have a say in the ending.

Yeah... they'll have clues to look at after the fact. Maybe years later even. Maybe get into that storage crate. Finally expose it all. Who knows man. If Rust/Hart don't get redemption out of it all that'd suck.

I think this could be true if you're one of those people who vastly overstated the importance of every little detail and going overboard on fan theories rather than just enjoying the show for what it is and going along for the ride. It's pretty obvious when watching interviews that the show creator really wasn't on board with all the fan theories and never intended the show to be dissected that thoroughly. I'm expecting a fully satisfying ending, if not mind-blowing like people usually expect.

No one could have predicted how crazy fans got with theories and such... but they are just playing along as detectives. I personally want to know the following, and I'd be happy -

    1. What happened with Marty's daughter? Especially the dolls and the finger-cuffing. They made that a point early and often for it to be a coincidence.

    2. Who is behind the killings, and who helped to cover them up for so many years. How deep does the rabbit hole go?

    3. What happens to Rust and Marty in the end?

What happens beyond that is icing on the cake for me.

Well of course, people are allowed to play along and think of whatever theories they want, but I'm just saying that going that route gives you much better odds of being disappointed with an ending that you wanted to happen, when it was never intended to end that way to begin with. Shows almost never live up to the hype fans put on it. People even had some issues with how Breaking Bad ended. It's much more satisfying to just watch the story unfold, rather than trying to build it up to unreachable expectations, IMO.

As for your wishes...you'll obviously find out 2 and 3. No doubt about that. As for 1, I don't think of this as too important of a detail, but some explanation would be nice. I wouldn't be upset if it wasn't explained, though.

I can't really see how the ending could be disappointing considering the first 7 hours were golden. I'm a bit concerned that there's only an hour left but I think they can tie up most of the stuff they need to.

Can't belieb this is the same guy who did How to lose a guy in 10 days you know? He's really getting the hang of playing these damaged characters so darn well I hope it doesn't affect him in real life in any way being a method actor in all.

If you are caught up and want some interesting theories, the true detective page on reddit is pretty interesting.

No I mean, we aren't going to like the direction.

I could see them shooting Rust in the head and getting away with all of it in the end.

I don't think you're giving the writers enough credit. I'd be stunned if that was the ending.

Yea I hope not. It would be a damn shame to see them get away with all of it, but thats what a lot of the show revolves around. The ****tiness of human existence, "There is no happy ending at the end of the tunnel" as Rust himself puts it.
