Magnolia - 6/10 (The acting was incredible, and I probably would have given it a 7.5, but the ending killed it for me a little.)

Very entertaining, but my only complaint is that cell phones and texting are at the core of the movie and woven all through it. The world's obsession with cell phones and texting is over the top.

    12 years a Slave

    7.5 out of 10.

Very well acted and an exceptional period piece...but it isn't a film I would ever want to watch again. The movie definitely does a good job of showing how much slavery sucks. Then again, we already knew that. Was expecting more after all the hype.

    The Lego Movie - 8/10

Kids absolutely loved it. It was pretty funny, even for parents.

Explanation: Non-Stop is a solid popcorn movie/thriller. I deducted for lack of realism/plot holes, but overall, I recommend it.

Son of God is a great movie. However, the story is inaccurate in a few places and could have easily been fixed. For example, the magi show up just hours after Jesus's birth, etc. From a cinematic standpoint, I didn't care too much for the focus on Pilate's story.

Non-Stop: I'll agree its in the 7-8 out of 10 range.

I loved the first 1.5 hours. Then they reveal the motivation behind everything, and I actually laughed as I thought "well, the screenwriter had to come up with something."

However, the action after that was exciting, so its forgiven. Lots of plot holes but fun anyway, great popcorn movie.

The texts on the screen were a great effect, added to tension. And the broken ones were cool.

I agree. It was a good thriller/mystery, but when they revealed the motivation behind the plot, I just rolled my eyes and laughed.

Still enjoyable and I like Liam Neeson.

    Pompeii - 3/10

Bad acting, bad dialogues, bad story... I don't know how they were able to force a love story in a movie about a volcano eruption, but they did it. I gave it a higher score than it deserved only because of comedic reasons (unintentional). And I'll just spell it out so you don't have to see it, everyone dies.

The Lone Ranger was decent for a popcorn movie. Not as bad as the reviewers made it out to be.

I found it more entertaining than any of those Pirates of the Caribbean or Marvel superhero pictures. For eg, the Thor sequel was like 10 mins of story and anyone capable of just hitting their marks could have modelled for the parts.

I thought it was exceptionally bad. Probably worth half of what imdb gave it. Also anyone else tired of Depp's characters lately? Looks like they're all a branch of POTC in some way.

Reminded me a little bit of BBC's Sherlock, which is not a bad thing at all :)

    INCREDIBLY great movie!

As an aside, I remember one of the best unintentional-comedy moments at the very beginning of this film.

If you put the DVD on German language and then watch with subtitles (instead of watching it dubbed), the subtitles also show during the opening title name.

So, since 'Das Boot' is German for 'The Boat', the subtitles under 'Das Boot' below, says, of course, 'The Boat'.

However, for some reason, in the German-language version, instead of the title name saying 'Das Boot', it actually says 'The Boat'. I don't know why they did that, but the funny thing to me was, the subtitle below also says 'The Boat'.

So, you have this dramatic music, and this huge grim 'The Boat' up above, and below in subtitles it says 'The Boat'.

Eh, well, maybe not THAT funny, except in the context of such a relentlessly grim movie, a little bit of something unintentionally funny like that became quite memorable.
