PS4 Failure Rate Is Less Than 1%, Sony Says

Neither company released hard numbers on failure rates, so it is impossible to say for sure. But if you're going to contradict what Sony themselves are saying (and they're the only ones who know for sure), then provide some evidence, please. I'm sure Sony is spinning things, but I doubt that they would outright lie.

This is indeed an old article, but the fact that failure rates haven't been talked about much in the last three months suggests it hasn't gotten any worse. It's hard to find any articles about it past late November.

 

Or more likely you have no clue and you're just typing whatever pops into your head. Yep, it's that one.

 

My Xbone has stopped playing DVD's since the last software update. This is the message that comes up:

"Disc stopped. Make sure your TV's HDMI input supports HDCP rights management. If not, try plugging your Xbox into a different TV input"

I tried swapping HDMI ports on my TV, same issue. Its not like I have a weird TV either, its a Samsung.

Um, yeah, that was sort of the point. Because you said:

I, on the other hand, did do a Google search for "PS4 failure rate," and I saw no reliable source indicating a failure rate higher than 1% (or any source, for that matter). And in any case, I have to believe that if you had a source, you would have posted it by now rather than make these weak protests.

So, you can either 1) provide a reliable source, or 2) admit that you were talking out of your butt.

Seriously, dude, you'll look better if you just man up and admit you made a mistake rather than continuing to act as if you didn't pull that statement out of thin air.

 

Yeah, since you know, around 6m sold, at say 0.9% failure rate gets you... oh, right. Over 50,000 failed consoles. Let's hypothetically say 10% of those bother to leave 1-star reviews and rant in forums. That's still over 5,000 complaints on da interwebz, assuming a rate of less than 1%.

First of all, two out of the four "issues" you named are failures. But let's ignore that for the moment. Because the question doesn't change:

Your numbers for this are where, again? Show me the data you were looking at when you confidently stated that "a lot more than 1%" of PS4 owners experienced at least one of the four problems you mentioned.

Seriously, we should start a betting pool on how many more posts you'll go without backing any of this up with any actual data or source. My money is on "never."

I.e., "I completely made up the 'way more than 1%' thing out of thin air, but now that I'm being called on it and can't back it up at all, I'm going to try to save face by saying it doesn't matter."

I suppose that's the way to go if you're not man enough to admit that you were just making crap up. And if you "could care less" about PS4's failure rate, I don't think you would have made up phony information to make Sony look bad and MS look good in comparison.

I will say over 5 posts. He just has a way of owning himself. I mean he wants to talk about how the PS4 is defective and we have 2 people, including himself, mentioning there Xbox One is defective on this page alone.

My money is still on "never." He's probably going to pretend to be above it all now by just not responding, and/or paint us as immature douchebags for continuing to harass him about it -- again to distract from the fact that he totally got caught with his pants down and won't admit it. He's already gone to the "but that wasn't my original point!" thing, as if that makes a wrong statement less wrong somehow (hint: false statements are still false regardless of whether they were your original/main point).
