As you should be able to tell from the thread title, this is not a thread for discussion about Lin. This is a thread to b**** and complain about Lin if he does poorly. This thread attracts the most ardent critics and supporters of Lin and they have such strong feelings for the subject that you will not get calm reasoned discussion here. What kind of discussion do you expect when the basis of the discussion is Jeremy Lin is a joke? BTW, what do Lin critics and supporters have most in common? Their favorite subject is Jeremy Lin. lol
I think this diary title is insulting to any player. It is a bit surprising to come on to a game thread site after losing to the Clippers and find most of the criticism directed at Lin when all of Houston's starters, including its 2 superstars + Beverley, were clearly outplayed and Lin only played about 20 minutes. Lin had one of the best +/- on the team for the game and there was almost no objectivity in assessing his performance (which was pretty good actually and had Houston kept him in the game and told him to keep challenging the Clipper D, I think the Rockets would've had better shot opportunities to win that game). The level of misplaced visceral reaction towards Lin speaks to the underlying insecurity of the critics. Race and his 'otherness' is clearly a factor.
Lin fans should be more concerned about his poor play on his court than what the Rockets fans think about him. If he plays well, it will take care of it itself. If he doesn't he will be criticized. Dont expect any preferential treatment just because he is Lin. This applies to ALL Rockets players, Lin or not. Any player, and really ANY player, if he played like hot garbage like Lin has lately, would be ripped apart on a basketball forum. On any TEAM basketball forum. The only exception might be player forum where the fans worship one player exclusively. So, for those folks who are overly-sensitive about their idol, I strongly suggest that for the sake of your own mental health, you pack your bags and leave for the greener pastures... ...because us long time ROCKETS fans will criticize ANYONE in a Rockets jersey that is struggling and hurting the team's performance.. It's not going to change now. You guys are fighting a losing battle.
I think too many people are overlooking this. When Lin was playing well only a few clearly biased people were bashing him. Unfortunately a few clearly biased people (in favor of Lin) were also touting the "I told you so" mantra. Therein lies the issue. It's a Yin Yang of camps looking to one up each other. When Harden was struggling mightily I found many threads criticizing him. The same for Casspi, Parsons, etc. Why should Lin be any different? Aren't we supposed to treat him just like everyone else? Of course I'm being a bit facetious, but I think you get my point. Lin receiver favor and criticism in the extremes. You most likely will not get one without the other.
You are right we had Jonny Flynn, Dragic and Lowery under contract at that time. Unfortunately Flynn turned out to be a bust because he wasn't able to get back to form after his injury in Minnesota.
Some folks have to stop and think, no fan wants to single out a player on their favorite team. This guy has to be doing something seriously wrong (IMO I think he is making so many basic and unprofessional mistakes at this point) to get so much negative feedback. It's not fun to constantly discuss how much more consistent his mistakes and lack of performance is compared to the rest of team. Sure Parsons, Casspi (to name a couple) are also on a downward slope or have terrible games, but we know what they are capable of and there is more of a chance of these players getting out of this "slump". If they don't recover, their gonna get the SAME treatment from their fans that JL is getting. You can't deny that he has become mentally weak and an easy to guard player on our team and if you cant count on one hand how many "good" games he had in months, this guy is in dire need of improvement. You can't blame lack of starting or playing time is part of the issue, this person makes so many silly and below rookie level mistakes with the time he does get, you just can't excuse that. I want him to succeed so bad, but he has (IMO) had more than enough time to get to a level to AT LEAST be a role player, not an offensive/defensive disease.
Good post in understand your view, but last page I posted about this how it's a CONTRACT THING, DRAGIC, & LIN ONLY FANS thing which is understandable. 1. Contract - if he was a on a parsons and bev type rookie contract, he would be a steal for what he has done here, plenty of 20+ point games, 38 point game, # 2 on all time rockets players assist season average list his first year "see media guide on rockets.com" helped us win plenty of games, and is proven to step in and win when harden is out. But when u have him making $8.3 he is watched hard and will be compared to other players around the league that play PG that make that type of money which is understandable. 2. DRAGIC - everybody is still hurt from DRAGIC leaving and especially how he DRAGIC has been playing this year. So when DRAGIC has big games people will always compare him to what is Lin Doing for us ? 3. Lin only fans - tend to talk bad about rockets organization and harden at times, & hype Lin up, so when Lin doesn't play good believe it or not it's bullets for people to shoot at by post threads or bump old threads and go at them because of things they said in the last to feel right.
Looking on the bright side, we probably will only have to put up with Lin's fans for another season. I highly doubt he will resign with the Rockets.
FIFY Look I understand why Lin was signed. It looked like with high usage he could be a really good player. The Rockets were still in mediocrity 14th pick treadmill and Morey had struck out on Bosh and Melo but Les would not authorize a tank. Two years later Lin is overpaid for his production and usage. Asik is honestly in the same boat. I fully anticipate Morey doing everything he can to lure Dirk or bosh this summer and look to unload Lin and Asik to say Philly for a pick.
Signing Lin was a money thing as well. The Franchise imo wasn't producing revenue like years before due to having multiple mediocre seasons. The plan changed once we acquired Harden and now Howard.
Why not start a petition for Clutch to remove "Jeremy Lin" from the SEO (search engine optimization) so this forum doesn't show up on the search engines when people type in Jeremy Lin. Also to offset any lose in ad revenue you can donate directly to the website. Problem fixed.
Thanks, & nope I'm not making any excuses for him, bottom Line is he's not playing up to his contract when u add that up with the 3 reasons I posted above it will always be a hot topic until he's not a rocket, shows up BIG in playoffs, or a rocket under a cheaper contract. But the dragic decision can never change.
What makes Lin so special that Clutch needs to go out of his way to do things when it comes to him? Lin is just another Rockets player as long he plays for the Rockets. If he helps the team win he will be appreciated. If he costs the team wins he will be criticized. When Lin is not a Rocket anymore, he will be discussed in the NBA dish. When he plays well, there will always be someone talking about it. When he plays terribly, there will always be someone talking about it. Welcome to the world of Sports forums. Deal with it.
One more thing DEL Jury is still out, if he shows up like cassell did for the city off the bench in the playoffs he will kill all the noise and have fans happy with him. Last year he folded. Even tho cassell was on a rookie contract I'm more of a playoff bball guy I have my eyes on everyone in playoffs. Not just Lin.. HOWARD on the $22mill contract. Because I saw what asik & Howard did last year in playoffs. & asik showed up Howard didn't... Jury still out from my view.
