nobody puts baby in a corner (nobody gets player options from Morey) because it too often makes them untradeable. If dragic stays healthy and maintains this level of play, then yes Phoenix got a fair deal. If he gets a nagging injury or his play declines they got a bad deal. As it is, he's the best player on a team that's going to get bounced in the 1st round (probably in 5 games or less). Morey was never going to chain himself to a contract that hinders him in 2015's free agency unless it was for a proven star (Harden/Howard). Every move he's made is to ensure that in 2015 we will have two all-stars under contract and a ton of cap space.
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports....suns-spurs-game-3-goran-dragic-just-happened/ I think he was a Spurs killer.
You said it. "At times". I've seen Goran do stuff I've never seen Lin do. And he's doing it more often. That alone says something, yea? If you are saying that if Lin and Dragic swapped places this year that Lin would be putting up Dragic numbers and vice versa? I disagree. Lin has played well "at times" this year and it has been important to the Rockets. That much I agree with.
Bottom line - Les, not Morey made this call. The Rockets never had any intention of keeping Dragic (unfortunately) as Lin / Les's Far East connections/$$$ took priority. The whole player option thing was/is just an excuse for public consumption.
why are the 2 ex Rockets Dragic and Lowry flourish after they leave the Rockets. Hmmmm when they both were here together the Rockets didn't even make the playoff at all. Now Dragic help a bad suns team into the playoff. Is this suns team better than the 2 years ago Rockets with lowry, dragic, scola, courtney lee, ab, dalembert, morris, patterson, chandler etc... or is it the system.. here is something for you to think about.. hmmmm
In hindsight, should Morey have signed Dragic instead of Lin? Probably, even with the player option. That said, you have to view every trade/signing in context. At the time, we didnt have Harden or Howard, and we didn't know Parsons was going to be this good. We also still don't know what 2015 free agency is going to net us. I think Morey would take a do-over on this knowing what we know now, but he made the right decision at the time.
Dragić wanted to stay in Houston and there was no question about it. Remember when Gogi and Zoki tweeted these two pictures during the 2012 offseason? Spoiler And the obligatory:
I respect the poster of this thread because he went at morey not Lin like many of the posters did in this thread complaining about Lin. This is not a Lin problem it's a morey problem.
Hey maybe if Morey strikes out on love he can sign Dragic back in the 2015 season with that cap space.
Honestly he looks better in a phoenix uniform (and i'm not even a huge fan of those). And i think PHX is a perfect fit for him. He'd have success had we kept him, but he wouldn't be playing as well as he is now. It was a good move for him.
