Dragic was going back to PHX as an unrestricted FA because that's where he wanted to be. HOU would have had to overpay to have any chance and no smart GM would do that. How about you try focusing on the good things DM has done? He has to make decisions in the now not in hindsight.
Its easy to ridicule decisions in hindsight. At this point last year, I don't remember anyone calling out Morey about letting Dragic go. Im a Dragic>any current pg we've had since the beginning but hindsight is always 20/20.
Again, half of CF living in the past. YOU guys are delusional. We all liked Goran when he was here, but nobody considered him a 'star'. Nobody considered him 'great'. He was just merely 'good'. He for sure wasn't good enough to take over the starting gig from Lowry. So, let's think about this logically. Morey trades Lowry away for a lottery pick. Keep in mind, there's no Harden trade yet. So now Morey is faced with the player option. Morey has to think to himself, I just traded our best player (Lowry), do I really want to risk future flexibility and cap space by giving Goran Dragic a player option? Keep in mind, Morey usually likes to get a team option. The Rockets are basically blowing this thing up. No stars on this team, and Dragic is definitely not a player ANYBODY deemed as a franchise player. So, let him walk or give in and give him the player option that might hinder future moves? Of course Morey let him walk. It was a good move. Then he signs Lin and Asik. It wasn't a matter of whether Lin was better than Dragic or vice versa. Complain about Lin's contract all you want, but the Rockets needed a PG, and we heard Morey and Les say they regretted cutting Lin. The real point is, with no Harden at the time, Lin AND Asik's number would come off the books in time for the 2015 FA class. That my friends, is what we call foresight. Morey gets Harden, something nobody saw coming, finally, a star. Lin helps lead the Rockets to the playoffs, along with Asik and Harden and Parsons and company, while Dragic doesn't have a season to really write home about. Where were you guys crying and making threads last season? Anyway, the Rockets end up getting Dwight and the rest is history. Yes, Goran is playing out of his mind right now, but it's easy to look back and cry about it. The Rockets are competing to be a top dog out West, Lin to the bench like you all want, and yet, still whining and crying. I agree. Let it go, guys.
If Dragic was after money, he'd take the Bobcats offer - I think they were willing to pay 9,5 per year. And he wanted to stay with Houston, because he really loved playing for McHale, everybody should just stop trying to rewrite history when it comes to that. When Ryan McDonough - newly appointed gm in 2012 - called him and asked what kind of coach does he prefer (before they went and got Hornacek), he said he'd like McHale.
Enough with the Dragic crap!!! HE DOESN'T PLAY FOR THE ROCKETS, and probably never will again. Stop living in the past OR you'll never enjoy the future! We have a great team that deserves our support and people keep fantasizing about a former player who plays for a rival team, talk about being loco! Morey did what he thought was right for the organization at that time, but I'm sure in hindsight, even he would admit he wished that he had Dragic on our team. A real Rocket fan would let it go and cheer for our current team with our current players, so man up and put your big boy pants on! GO ROCKETS!!! ....... ....... .......
That team is built around him in every possible way Generally, when you take a good player and put players around him to enhance his strengths and mask his weaknesses, you'll get a good team.
Let Dragic go was finally a big mistake (even with the extra year player option). Morey is a great GM, with a lot of extraordinary moves, but he lose a cheap Star (8 million a year) for nothing and we have now Lin eating our cap space
This thread should be move to the Dish. Dragic is no longer part of the Rockets. He wanted a player option and now he is on a subpar team that may or may not make the playoffs. Bledsoe their supposedly 2nd "superstar" has been out since December. Sure Dragic might be carrying his team to the playoffs but they won't get very far against the Rockets because we have Harden and Howard. Peace out Dragic. You were only here for a season and a half. I'm happy you are doing well. But as far as I'm concerned, I wish the Phoenix Suns nothing more than failure in the future.
I thought it was ludicrous to let him go for a 4th year player option, that he was the most talented PG the Rockets have had in years. However, I understood the move, the Rox were going to tank and brought in Lin to sell tickets while they lost and got a higher draft pick. Then - we got Harden and things changed - I am sure Morey wishes he would have given that option - but he had no way of knowing that Harden would break loose. So, it is more circumstantial than anything...... Think about it, if the Rox kept Dragic and Harden did not become available, Dragic is good enough to keep us in that dreaded 9th spot or 14th pick in the draft, whereas Lin would have sold tickets but not had the same impact. So, yeah, I believed Dragic was a budding star, but understood the move - didn't like it, but understood what Morey was doing. It happens. DD
there is no way to predict unless you have a time machine. It is the same with Yao and Tmac if they were healthy over again. Dragic is a beast now in Phoenix but he was only relatively good with the Rockets at the age of 25 back then.
Some guys thrive in certain environments. I am not sure that Dragic is the star that can be effective no matter where he is like Lebron. Even Howard isn't equally good in all the places he went. Blame it on the injuries and being unhappy.
Dragic is no doubt evolved into one of the best but given that he is the main guy for the phoenix offense.
Look, I remember the whole deal with this Dragic dude. Had one playoff game several years ago where he absolutely torched the Lakers (I think it was the Lakers) and he became the second coming. He then had a very, very average career following this, and when he was with the Rockets, he became very good- not a superstar, but very good. If I'm Morey, I can't base the decision on the Rockets year, I have to base it on more than that. And based on the guy's past, I wouldn't have given him what he was asking for. But I also wouldn't have given Lin that contract based on Linsanity- too short a sample size. Same with Asik. But sometimes you gotta take risks. None of us know this, though, with these types of players. But comparing him to Harden? Oh, please. Harden's been proving it consistently since he's been in the league, and his numbers go up every year. Dragic gives you a career high of 40; Harden is a 40-point threat every time he steps on the floor. Every time.
