I know places like Denny's, Golden Corral, and Buffalo Wild aren't the best eateries, but the mac and cheese is beyond embarrassing. Those same places' other dishes are NOWHERE near as low quality. The m/c tastes like noodles with yellow paste. The people eating it like it's going out of style must not know what they're missing. The last good I had was at a Ruby Tuesday in Mississippi and the cook said he added cheese (without request), so can't really say Ruby is good. At this point, I'd be happy with Velveeta when dining out. Either mac and cheese is an expensive dish to maintain, or people have low standards.
Mac and cheese is on that small list of things that I generally will not order when I'm out to eat. Mac and Cheese and Steak are the two off the top of my head. Steak, I will order on occasion. It's just that I feel like I can prepare either of these things at home, and they'll taste just as good, if not better, and I spend way less. It's really easy to make good mac and cheese.
I have the same complaint when I order a peanut butter jelly sandwich at a sandwich shop. It's never like my home bought jar of Skippy.
I see where you're coming from, but are you sure that list isn't bigger? Most things can be made at home rather easily. Main reasons people go out is laziness and the atmosphere.
I was making the rounds junior year of high school looking for a job and when I went in to ask for an application there the manager was stuffing her damn face. She wasn't fat or anything, I was just really grossed out.
Went to Luby's on Tuesday. The mac looked similar to the other places I mentioned, so didn't get it. The sauce wasn't yellow enough and was too runny. Since posters are giving positive responses, I'll try it next time.
Wasn't yellow enough? I use white cheddar and sometimes gruyere in my mac, which means its normally white... that'swacist.gif
Yeah, usually color and texture tells the story. Most restaurants must not be hip to white cheddar. Since posters have said good things about Luby's, I'll try it.
Anyone know how Alfreda's (Southmore @ Almeda) compares to Luby's? Alfreda's is very nice, but it's soulfood..... of course it's good.
Great info!! Boston Market Jus Mac Luby's Haven't been to Market in 10+ years and never tried their m/c. Never heard of Juc Mac. Will hit them up.
