Check out their games against south florida and memphis.

I'd say they've had as many signature wins. Teddy's bowl game wins are better than Bortles and (although defense plays a huge part and they both had good defenses) he's had a better record than Bortles the past 2 years.

And yeah UH wasn't bad, they almost beat UCF, but their defense held them in the redzone.

Check out their games against Temple... But of course Teddy has the better career but this past year Blake has the more signature wins.

Louisville had the #2 ranked defense in the nation with NFL talent and an "NFL ready quaterback". Blake beating them on their home field in a night game was a bigger win than Teddy had all year.

Blake shined in their big time games against ranked opponents Louisville, S. Carolina, and Baylor and also unranked Penn State and went 3-1 losing to SC by 3 points. UCF was the underdog in all those games. And Blake helped pull out a lot of close games this year. He's played in a lot of pressure situations so he's battle tested. And helped get an unranked team with less talent to being ranked #10 in the nation. So his mental toughness and leadership skills are not in question.

All that could mean nothing. Just stuff I pay attention to because I value that more than guys putting up big numbers who are never under any real pressure.

The only positive I keep hearing for Bortles over the rest of the QB's is his size. Yeah, that worked out so well for Matt Schaub, who is of comparable size.

Bookmark it; if they take Bortles #1 overall, O'Brien is out of a job in 3 years.

They wont take Bortles...its the ESPN hype machine at work...Bortles reminds of a Cassel...and he tends to stare down receivers...This wont work in the NFL.

I think that's the case if the Texans select ANY of the QB's in this class #1 overall.

LOL, sure we do..... Teddy Bridgewater fans really are a special breed. Now we need a Manzealot to come around and say that the Texans would go 15-1 and win the next 12 Super Bowls if they draft JFF.

    You guys are crazy.

A guy like Bridgewater would be throwing to Andre and Hopkins and a sound running game, that equals points

Our defense was still was still a top 10 d in total yards

I'd say that's a little much. With Teddy, I think in his first year, you could go anywhere from 5-10 wins with a shot at the playoffs. I'd lean towards 8.

My guess for record with #1 pick

    Teddy 8-8
    Manziel 6-10
    Clowney 6-10
    Bortles 3-13

And ranked #26 in points allowed which is the most important defensive stat which makes them being ranked top 10 in total yards a fluke. And if you look at the previous year they gave up over 120 points to New England and Green Bay in 3 games and I think Chad Henne threw for around 500 yards against them.

Our defense was mostly good going against weak teams. Romeo has work to do...

Well I guess that just depends on what you think "A guy like Bridgewater" means, to me it's not that impressive and not even an upgrade over the QB situation last year.

It would all depend on the other moves that are made, drafting Clowney would help the defense become amazing which would go a lot further towards winning games than ANY of these QB's.

I know it's popular to blame last year's record on QB play, but that was actually the least of the team's problems. The pick 6's were unacceptable, but having no run game and a defense that couldn't stop a team in the red zone to save their lives had a lot more to do with the losses.

I hope you realize how ridiculous this sounds.

A quarterback touches the ball every play and makes critical decisions on nearly half the offensive plays versus a guy that may stop someone from running or throwing the ball 10 times a game. A few of those times after the person has already made a first down.

I'm a defense first guy. But even I can't deny that you cannot win in this league without a QB. Love Clowney, but still going QB because of the simple fact that if you get down early, a top notch QB can bring you back. A pass rusher not so much.

I can understand how it would seem that way, after all the media pretty much sells football games as QB vs QB so it makes sense that some people would buy into that line of thinking. However if you look at last year, lack of a run game with Foster out and lack of a competent defense with Cushing out and no way to generate a pass rush without blitzing because all you really had worth a damn was Watt played more into losing games than QB play did.

Get Foster back healthy, get Cushing back healthy, add a 2nd beast pass rusher like Clowney, and add a legit NT and IMO the Texans should challenge for a playoff spot. They do need a new QB, but,
    1. There isn't an amazing QB in this draft worth picking first overall
    and
    2. The Texans aren't a team that is going to win with QB play.

The Texans are much closer to the San Fancisco/Seattle model than they are the Denver model.

The last two QB's to win the SB were nothing special, yet that myth persists....

Also, the more important you think QB's are should make you realize that it's important to put them on their backs.

    You guys are optimistic.

I see at the very best a 6 win team here next season, no matter what they do in the off season.
