I'm sick of seeing video of Clowney routinely giving up and walking on plays that go to the other side of the field. That's insanity. That's the only reason I'd give consideration into not taking him number one. That, and the glaring need at QB.

What were you trying to show? That 2 guys kept him inside allowing a run outside? He was lined up in the 5 technique and they went at him with a guard and a tackle keeping him from getting outside to stop the run. What is that a sign of, in your opinion?

I think it was just to show the lack of a motor. Most guys that play football would have, at the very least, tried to get their shoulders sideways, and fight through that "double-team". Or, a good player would have extended their arms, and tried to keep their man extended in front of them and fought to the outside, where the ball was going. Surely, someone of Clowney's strength could have done that. Instead, Clowney just stands straight up, and walks, giving up on the play two seconds in. Highly questionable in a number one pick. He wasn't really even getting double-teamed either. By time the second man got there, Clowney had given up, and the second man had to do nothing.

I see exactly what he's getting at.

That it appears he didn't even try to make a play. Look how he gets out of his stance. It looks like he doesn't wanna be there.

Kind of funny they had to put Clowney's 2012 sacks in there. How does he only get 3 freaking sacks last year?

Because he didn't care last season. That's what worries me.

Hardly engages the tackle at all, no effort to set outside edge. Sure they had two guys on him, but they didn't even need it, he had no aggression on a goal line play in overtime

    Easy question to ask.

What would JJ Watt done on that play in the same position?

There is a reason that Clowney will never be half the player JJ is.

Do you know what play was called? Do you know what his responsibilities on that play were? If his job was outside contain, then sure, he did a bad job, but if his job was to guard against an inside run then that's different. It looked a lot to me like the

defense was set up to play the inside run, which would change his responsibilities. Maybe he was playing a double gap coverage. Again, you are making a lot of assumptions.

It doesn't matter what the play call was, if you've ever played football you've been told even if you're running the wrong play or doing the wrong thing, do it 100%. Unless that was victory formation he was not going 100%. If it was a run to the inside he wasn't going to stop it.

Fair enough, think whatever you want to think, if you watch that play, you see that the defense sold out against an inside run, and it looks like Clowney was in a 2 gap role. As the ball was snapped, he's fighting to keep position and lock down his two gap responsibilities when the guard heads over and helps the tackle keep him inside for an outside run. It was just a bad play call. Assuming he did have 2 gap responsibilities on that play, the only way he could have stopped that is if he'd completely abandoned his responsibilities and instead shot the 6 hole which would have pushed the run back inside back to where his responsibilities were....without him there it's probably a TD just the same only that way it would have been his fault.

It's not even a manner of "defending" anyone. When someone looks at an equation that says 1+1 and posts about it equaling 8, I refute it.

Except he is loafing it and you defend it.

Like I said, he is a physical beast and should have had a better season than last year.

Again, if you knew what you were watching when you watch film, you'd know that not to be the case. When your responsibility is to lock down 2 gaps, you can't shoot one of them to set the edge. Watch the rest of the tape (not that I'm sure it would even do any good) the very next play he has different responsibilities and the play goes exactly where he would have been if he'd have just stayed and locked down his gaps. You don't play every call the same way which is why if the wrong thing is called, it ends badly a lot of the time. Now look at the play after that, his responsibilities are different and he's back to 2 gapping.

Know what you're watching if you are going to complain.

So he sees the runner making a move to the edge and instead of fighting to the outside to make a play, he decides it would be better to maintain his supposed gap responsibility?

Do you even know what 2 gap is? His entire purpose would be to engage the tackle and setting the outside edge.
