Ugh.... yes, the Rockets have an offensive PHILOSOPHY.... is that better? They run a similar (more experimental) philosophy in the DLeague. An ability to do well in the style of play utilized in the DLeague bodes well when playing for the Rockets. Being a better athlete DOES matter..... it is why Novak does not get more minutes, it is why Fredette does not get more time. Having the athletic ability to stay in front of your man on defense, to rotate defensively and to run the floor ALL all valuable. Most really good three point shooters do not just stand there and hope the ball finds them, they can come off of picks, they can move on the floor according to what the other 9 players on the floor are doing and no where to go to get their shot.... that is something Daniels has done very well. If Morey wants Jimmer, I do not have a problem with that..... but Reddick is MORE like Daniels that he is Jimmer.
I want Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva and jimmer! All would fill out our bench nicely.. Lin/ jimmer Gordon/ Hamilton Casspi/ Garcia Charlie V/ dMo Asik/ smith So stacked I could cry!
I'd love to take a flyer on him, but it's not going to happen. We would have to waive somebody. Playing time would be far from guaranteed. He's not coming to Houston.
cut greg smith first, sign jimmer. cut garcia, sign villanueva. that would definitely bolster our bench.
This guy will sign with the Lakers and play good for D'antoni. Then next year some dummy will pay him 25m for 3 years...
Adding Jimmer means Canaan will be buried deeper in the rotation. Send him back to the Vipers and continue to develop his game.
The rockets would rather keep smith and offer him his qualifying offer in the free agency period. Also we arnt going to cut Garcia he has a player option next year If everyone wanted a lights out 3rd string point guard then why arnt you all mad as hell for the fact we traded AB.
He's not going to get much PT anyway, and I'd rather we get Jimmer than a team like the Spurs or Clips.
I doubt he'd sign with the Rockets. He'd almost certainly want to go to a team where he can get minutes to showcase himself for a chance at something other than a minimum contract. On a player level, I'm not a fan of signing him. Yes, he's a deadeye shooter, but he usually gives away more points through bad defense, poor ballhandling, and average court vision. To his credit, he's improved on some of his weaknesses since entering the league, but he still needs just the right situation (and Sacramento was far, far from ideal) to not be a net negative when he hits the court. I don't think the Rockets are one of those teams.
I still DON'T think we should pass up Jimmer because we have someone who lit it up in the D-League FIXED
If I were Jimmer I would want to go to a team that I could showcase my abilities since he hasn't gotten paid in the NBA yet. Some criteria I would look for would be: a team with no depth at his position where he can get a bunch of minutes (new york), A team with a coach who's system will give you a high usage and maximize your numbers (LAL), A title contender without much depth at his position where he can get some minutes in the playoffs and showcase his abilities on a national stage (miami), a team with a great coach who can figure out how to use him correctly and still plenty of minutes to be won (Chicago). Houston fits close to none of these categories. We have a well below average coach who is far from a lock to recognize talent and find him a role. We are a team that may make a playoff run but is far from a lock to get to the WCF or further. We are a team that has a bunch of depth in front of him, and a team that would take the ball out of his hands even if he did work his ass off, impress everyone, and become a starter. Since many teams will be willing to gamble on a guy who's shooting 50% from the 3pt line this year I don't think we have a shot at him.
I figure Jimmer would sign with a team with more obvious minutes available to him. More of a situation like Lin or Kendall Marshall got with D'Antoni.
