LOL @ Samsung. Designing is HARD when you can't copy Apple...LOL. This phone is going to be a MASSIVE FAILURE. HTC ONE+ is going to crap all of the S5. Not to mention the bigger iPhone 6. I personally like my LG G2.

The GS5 back looks disgusting. The only one people should buy is the black version since the lame dots are less visible.
Like I've always said, if you are going to stick with android go the Nexus route. If you are on Verizon.... The S5 is just another round of Samsung's philosophy of pack as many gimmicky features that would look great on 20 second tv spots in a cheap ugly looking device. At this point I would rather own an ios device rather than a Samsung device. That says a lot coming from me.
While I dont ever plan on buying a Samsung for myself, I can see how people would value their high-spec hardware, removable battery, memory card, and you can always put a custom launcher over touchwiz. Heck all my nexus right now is using Nova.
When you buy a device, that can and probably is the most important item you use daily - looks are important. Also, not everyone uses cases. Case in point... I don't use cases either. Never have, never will. That is a huge reason I've never been a fan of any Samsung phone - as the build qualities have always been sub-par in comparison to other premium tier devices (this topic has been debated ad nauseam elsewhere on these boards, so I don't want to start a pissing match).
My Note 2 went nekkid for a couple of months. I've dropped it plenty of times in my car when it was mounted a ****ty $10 sticky window mount and once or twice on cement. Only dented the corner slightly. Other than that, it is still in good shape. My Note 3 is nekkid as well and I have yet to encounter any problems with it. Hell, my Dell Venue 8 was launched in the air and dropped on ****ing cement landing face down on the screen. (Don't ask) Only got scratches on power button and side bezels with one minor scratch on the screen. Only phone I had a case on was my Nexus 5, but that was because the device was a little too thin to hold comfortably, otherwise, would have gone nekkid as well. Seriously, I don't know what you people do to your phones to warrant any "premium" material on it and try to question the build of a plastic phone, but I have first-hand account that high-end plastic devices are as durable as your premium quality phones.
The "feel" has a lot to do with it. A premium feel is important to many people, since you hold the thing all day. I know plastic can feel premium, because Nokia's Lumia line pulls it off flawlessly. I had a Samsung Focus and I've used Galaxies and Notes, and all of them seem to have a lot of "flex" compared to other devices. Again, it is personal preference, but even mainstream phone reviews mention feel and build quality regularly. "Felling good in the hand" can and is important. My Focus was the best launch Windows Phone their ways in terms of hardware specs, but they chinched on build materials. I had to put a case on it, and I hated it because it was no longer an easy pocket carry.
Hold a Lumia 1520, 1020, 920 or Icon and tell me its crappy plastic. Those phones are better built than the iPhones and Samsung phones put together.
And I'm not evening arguing against high end plastic phones. At least understand the context before replying. He was comparing an every level Samsung Focus to high end phones and saying it had **** build quality.
I've used many phones and used to be a fan of HTC. But I hated the degradation in speed and battery life of the one line. I had to replace my one in 6 months because it couldn't hold a charge and got slow as ****, even with me rooting it. I finally bought an S4 and have been using it for several months and I am a fan. People harp on build quality but the s4 IMO has a great build. The phone is light and the screen is beautiful. Plus I love the features samsung has put in for power users like me. And I use a spigen case which looks like a million bucks. Samsung won me over and while I'm not gonna buy an S5 my next phone will certainly be a samsung. And just my opinion I don't see how windows phone will be preferred over ios or android. The fact that it is just now getting a proper notification center is shocking.
HTC really fell off the radar during Samsung's rise to dominance, and I just don't get it. They used to make some terrific phones 3-4 years ago. My HTC Arrive was a slide-out keyboard Windows Phone 7 device, and it is probably the favorite device I've ever owned. It wasn't the fastest, and it didn't have the biggest screen but it was built ike a tank out of aluminum and rubber - and the keyboard was fantastic. I miss physical keyboards :-( The HTC Arrive even had arrow keys on the keyboard, so it made RDPing with it all that more amazing. The HTC Surround while gimmicky was still built well, while the HTC Trophy and HTC HD7 were both top-notch devices. On Windows Phone 8 the HTC 8x left a lot to be desired. They're supposed to be releasing at least two Windows 8.1 devices later this year - and I'm hoping they get back to the days of yore. An HTC One with Windows Phone wouldn't be too shabby, but they'll need to step up their game to compete with Nokia in the Windows Phone space.
