And that's where the quesiton is. Is he going to shut it down ala Haynesworth once he gets the big payday?
I imagine some people might ask that question, but those are people you have to be concerned about eating play-dough, so I'm not really worried about those people.
I hope that we have to be concerned about O'brien and Smith eating play-dough then. It should definitely be a question brought up with Clowney. By your opinion there is no need to even interview Clowney, he is perfect in every way.
Martez Wilson was the belle of the ball after the combine - very much like Bruce Irvin was. His nickname was "The Freak". http://draftbreakdown.com/scouting-report-martez-wilson/ Answer truthfully. Did you even know who Martez Wilson was when I brought him up?
I agree with this..... and if you look at the elite players, many of them were not elite in the combine. Obviously positions matters too, as certain positions seem to reflect more accurately performance versus combine results. Clowney is an impressive physical specimen, but we already knew that. I saw nothing today that changes my opinion of him. We already knew he was explosive and fast, and large and agile. The issue with him has to do with performance and effort and that isn't addressed in the raw combine numbers. It is up to the Texans to do their due diligence and speak to Clowney, his old coaches, girlfriends and teammates and see what he is made of on the inside. Folks can say "he was good last year" all they want, but I have seen everyone one of his games in college and he was NOT as good last year as he should have been and the question is why, and is it something that will be fixed. You want a guy with a drive to be great, it is why Mario Williams is good and not great, and it is why players like Bruce Smith made an impact for so long.
See how that's the difference? Clowney was the best player in the draft before the Combine and is still the best player in the draft. You bring up a one year wonder who was a workout warrior as a comparison.
How fast is Clowney?:

Clowney official 40 time = 4.53. The 5-yr average of wide receivers at the combine is 4.54. WRs average 202 lbs. So now I'm a Clowney lover & a Teddy worshipper. Odd. Perhaps eventually folks here will realize I'm a "Best Player" guy. Regardless of where he went to college/conference.
Clowney could have left last year and probably been the #1 pick and people are still trying to act like he's just a workout warrior? Elite defensive talent is only trumped by elite quarterbacking talent....there sure as **** isn't any elite quarterbacking talent in this draft so I'd be perfectly ok with the Texans taking Clowney. Any issues with his work ethic/desire will be found out quick in training camp working with JJ.
Perhaps you should realize that I was speaking about this board in general and not to a specific User
It's not a problem for people who know what they are watching, but if you are basing everything on a sack total or whatever, I can understand how you would be concerned.
You're correct. My apologies. That was a knee jerk reaction to the attacks some users have had in the Teddy thread.
They are both VERY impressive. If Mack had gone to a legit college instead of Johnny Buckwheat Jr College, he could very well have ended up in the conversation for the top pick and might even be in it now.
Iron sharpens iron...if Clowney is paired up with JJ Watt...there is zero reason for work ethic to be a problem... Having a chance to draft Julius Peppers, we chose to draft Carr...History is looking like it may repeat it self...and we still want a QB?
Everyone knows Clowney is an athletic freak...but he leaves a lot to be desired as far as technique, motor/stamina, and work ethic. I'll take him if BoB doesnt like TB or Manziel...but my preference is 100% to go with a QB. Not saying that any of the QBs are at Luck's level...but the Colts go from worst to playoffs with Luck with a defense that was not nearly as talented as the Texans. Chiefs go from worst to playoffs with Alex Smith. A QB can go a long, long way...much more than some of you here are willing to admit.
