I've been watching the Rockets since the days of Barkley, Mobley, and Stevie Franchise. The team is 20 games above .500, Dwight Howard and James Harden are here, and the media is giving them their props with national games. They've bumped the Lakers out of a few games, too. It was painful, but we've had to endure the injury prone seasons where T-Mac or Yao were in and out. Our best scorers were Scola and Martin not too long ago. We are truly blessed with the team we have in the tough Western conference. And you know what? I don't remember a team that was this close and having fun together since I've been watching the team (the chip teams were close as well I imagine). I'm enjoying the ride so far.
LOL! Youngster. Welcome. I have been out of the contract negotiations and restructuring and signings and all that in the last few years, and I hadn't watched as much, but was still aware of the big players, but I must say that with the young talent (Lin, Parsons, Beverly, Jones) and the veteran leadership (Howard, Harden), this team will go very far.
I don't think it will hit me until we beat a team like OKC or Miami. Right now I still feel nervous playing SAC and PHX.
I am enjoying this season! Top 3 seed in the West was everything I could ask for for this year. It might be a long shot for us to win the championship this season, but we are growing as a team. Once we get rid of Lin and his waste of a 8.3 salary and get someone that is worst every penny of his salary, we will be set!
It is much more frustrating this season than it has been in a while. They can be fantastic one quarter and horrible the next. Last season, the horrible quarters weren't as bad as the team was middle of the pack. Last night, the second and third quarters were like knives in the eyes.
i moved to houston as a young buck and stevie franchise was my favorite player until he got traded. it's refreshing to be cheering for a legit title contender considering the tmac/yao era still keeps me up at night.
This season is not as excited as last year was because we have higher expectations and we get frustrated when the team is inconsistent. However I prefer to be a pretender ( soon-to be contender) than a ninth seed team every year.
It's the first season since 2004-05 where I'm not only having fun, but I feel optimistic about the future of the franchise. 2006-07 was tempered by the Yao leg injury. 2007-08 was an amazing ride thanks to the 22-game winning streak, but I think we all knew they were at best a 2nd round knockout. 2008-09 was a great year, but I was always worried they couldn't beat the Lakers(little did I know they had a legit shot before Yao went down).
Word. Last year was fun because the Rockets were expected to be bad, and so anything over those low expectations was just gravy. But I remember when the Rockets actually had a chance to make the playoffs last year, it wasn't quite as fun because the games actually mattered at that point and losses would suck.
And also, I thought the McGrady and Yao years were fun even though they didn't do anything in the playoffs.
It's been hell of a season, really love it. I was saying today, I'm really glad Houston is finally a powerhouse team again.
Yup. Enjoying the ride so far. Although those few tough losses were hard to take but I hope the team can learn from it. Better to have those tough losses during the early regular season than late regular season/playoffs right?
Loving this season. Being in the position of "dark horse contender" is awesome. it is genuinely easy to root for the guys on our team.
Oh, and I'm an out of stater so thanks to league pass/national tv, I think I've only missed 1 or 2 games this year. (sorry Houstonians, hopefully Rockets will be on locally soon).
Enjoying the season, OP? Oh, hell yes! 20 games over .500, 3rd in the WC, 2 superstar players, when we had none 2 years ago, and the Rockets are the 3rd youngest team in the league, which bodes well for our future. Anyone not enjoying this is crazy, in my humble opinion. If Clutch could somehow wave a magic wand and end the seemingly never ending soap opera surrounding our point guards, it would be damn near perfect.
