The 2-14 disaster was a direct result of: 1. overconfidence in team abilities 2. Matt Schaub's history making run of Pick 6's 3. Inability to generate offense(bc of predictability) 4. Injury bug hitting the starting RB, TE, LT(for the Texans offense, this was a massive problem) and loss of Manning, Cushing and zero production from the worst FA acquisition by the Texans in Ed Reed. 5. Schedule(after the 2 wins, playing a desperate 0-2 Superbowl champs at their place, playing 3NFC West opponents back to back to back - Seattle, 49ers, Rams, and playing an undefeated KC defense with a Rookie UDFA-QB) 6. Team quitting after week 9 demoralizing loss to Andrew Luck at Home after being up big. A. This team addressed the biggest problem...offensive predictability. The changing of the Head coach was necessary. B. The next problem to address is a lack of depth...teams go through injuries all the time, but good teams with good backup are able to sustain key losses with talent behind them. C. There are a lot of positions of need for this team: QB(lack of skill), OLine(lack of talent), DLine(lack of pass rush), LB(lack of depth) and Safety help(lack of speed). For anyone that thinks that these problems will be address in this draft alone, is fooling themselves. The Texans goal should be to retake the division from the Colts. You win the division and you get into the playoffs. This is a much more attainable goal considering how weak this division truly is. With so many holes to fill and so many questions regarding the current batch of QBs, the Texans really have a hard decision. But if you really need a starting point, a base/foundation to work from, the Texans better be looking at JJ Watt and go from there...
Yep... He is not a fluid athlete. Zero bend. With that said, he had a great day. Maybe ATL will make an offer the texans cannot refuse.
I agree with most of that, but IMO injuries and a garbage O line played a bigger part in our offensive woes than predictability. If Foster was healthy and we had a RT at all I think we win at least 6 or 7 games, if we had a pass rush without blitzing as well, we make the playoffs.
I can't imagine them being able to, they don't have multiple first round picks and I'd imagine BOB will want to make a splash by picking the best player in the draft rather than giving him to the Falcons.
He means he would be comfortable with him in his 3rd year when he needs to prove something rather than just getting paid for his potential. So not comfortable drafting him, comfortable when he has monetary motivation.
Not suprising to see at 6'5" guy out stride a 5'11" guy. This gif is completely pointless despite it making the rounds on twitter
It wasn't just out-striding him, he beat him off the line as well. Also, one is 60 pounds heavier....I think I heard that Clowney put up the fastest time for anyone over 260 pounds ever.
I don't think we can pass on Clowney. WOW. take a QB in a later round, or grab Kirk Cousins... Redskins want a 2nd rounder, how about our 3rd rounder which is the first pick in the round...
Is this better? It's Clowney outrunning Cam Newton & Colin Kaepernick: I keep forgetting anything that disproves that Johnny is a Greek God is forbidden.
No way to Kirk Cousins. Why would we give them a pick higher than he was even taken? I'd say Boyd, McCarron, Murray, Mettenberger are all meh, no thanks. Carr (omg) and Garappolo are intriguing, but I still think this puts us in franchise limbo for a while still.
Not really. There are two keys here. 1) The fact the lineman is "engaged" and not a dead weight (i.e. technique is huge) 2) The fact that the combine bench press is an endurance activity, not a strength/power activity. Football, especially for linemen, is not an endurance sport as much as it is a power sport. How much power can you generate quickly and in less than ideal circumstances. A guy like Clowney will be on the outside of any line chasing RBs around corners and flushing QBs out of the pocket. His speed is a huge part of what he will be tasked with doing. Irrelevant. Watt is a master of his craft. There are no technique/work ethic drills at the combine. Have anything to back this up? Remind yourself again that the combine bench press is not a pure strength exercise. I'm willing to bet OLBs and DEs ("rushers") are typically faster than their DL counterparts (the guys you seem to be talking about... of which Clowney is not).
I am simply amazed at the Clowney lovers in here drooling over his 40 yard dash. I agree I guy his size should not be able to run the 40 that fast. He is truly a freak of nature to be able to do that. So what? He probably will never run a significant 40 yards in his career. The 40 is the most overrated "test" in the combine for most position players. But its good to now that in a 40 yard race without pads Clowney would be able to catch Manziel
